Just purchased a DS224+ yesterday. The DS923+ shown here is a bargain and pretty tempting.

For anyone wondering
The final 2 numbers in their model is the year they came out.

"j" is the budget model
A few others in between
+ Is above the rest of their line with the exception of
Xs = Synology top of the line

Just get any NAS and a cheap Intel mini-PC to actually run Plex. The N100 units are like $150 and can easily transcode multiple 4K streams. Let your NAS just handle file storage.

If you're looking for a NAS for Plex and need transcoding, this isn't it.
If not, it's a good deal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You should find one that has an intel chip, like the DS224+

The 923+ is the same exact hardware as the 224+ in everyway but bay count.

Correction the 423+ is the same.
The 923+ is a AMD R1500 2 core,
4gb expandable to 32

Thanks for the correction posters.

Good to know. I didn't bother looking at the specs. I have the DS224+ and it transcodes very well.

The model I was initially interested in is the DS1522+. After comparing, it seems that the difference with the DS923+ is not that significant. The main difference appears to be the 4-Bay versus 5-Bay. I was wondering if there are any other major differences. Thanks!

I want to build a NAS for home storage and save photos clips family but not in a hurry. Would this price better in like July 4th or BF? Thank you.

Are you sure? Doesn't ds923+ have a ryzen CPU while the ds224+ have the more sought after Celeron CPU that Plex users want?
