From what I have reviewed (a few hours of YouTube videos) most seem to say up to PSX and PSP with various degrees of success on GameCube/PS2/3DS/Wii. It seems there was a community OS that came out that increased its ability somewhat on these more challenging platforms, but I haven't found a review that shows before and after performance with the most challenging games for those platforms. As far as 4:3 ratio handhelds go, this seems to be king, and most comparable to the Retroid 3+ or Retroid Flip in performance (which are both 16:9.).

That being said, this Is the compatibility sheet for this model, but again, I don't know if this is before or after upgrading the OS.

S33k3r's right. If you google search there are compatibility lists for the RG405/505, showcasing partial guides to help get the tested games working.

Personal experience is that my 405 using the Daijisho front end is that Dolphin is able to run Twilight Princess and Smash Melee with very few, if any, hiccups (mainly frame rate but it's only a couple frames and fixes itself). PS2 is a touch iffy, and requires a lot more tinkering in the emulator settings to get it running well.

That all said, the system works fantastically, feels great, and with a touch screen makes DS/3DS actually work without much compromise.

Thanks for the input! I may hold off a little bit. I've been going a little tech crazy lately. 🤪

Do you want power or portability? If power is your aim and you want more systems/games to work with less tinkering and would rather have a 16:9 screen (pretty awesome AMOLED from what I have heard), then go with the RG556. Size wise though, this seems to be more of a "throw in your bag handheld," than a "take in your pocket."

If you mainly play 4:3 format games and want something that is easy to carry, go with the RG405M.

I have a 3+ as well and picked up the Odin 2 Pro a few months ago. Definitely a fantastic upgrade, highly recommend.

Changing the OS to GammaOS improves speed quite a bit but requires a little work - and I don't think you can go back to Anbernic OS.

For those going back and reading this thread, I got my unit today and PS2 works, but with mixed results, but that also may due to changes to late development AetherSX2 and NetherSX as both of these and all of their versions apparently have mixed success with a lot of games. I am using the latest version of Nether as that seems to be the best bet in getting updates and better working games in the future, however not all games work the best on it.

I just started testing but here is what I got working:
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence at 2x resolution with Vulcan
Dynasty Warriors 3 at 1x resolution with Vulcan (didn't even try this one at 2x)

God of War booted up but became stuttery quick. I changed down to 1x and switched between Vulcan and Open GL, but none of that seemed to make much of a difference, so I would say this one is not playable.

I hope this helps someone out there. Overall I really like this unit for covering all my retro 4:3 play, with the exception that I won't get my hopes up on playing every PS2 game on this.
