Same with LA, arguably worse. Don't understand why the tourism and fascination with these places unless you're very wealthy, like 10 million+ net worth wealthy.
Its a shame people feel this way. I was born and raised in LA, but thoroughly enjoy traveling throughout different parts of the country. Every corner of america has its charm regardless of social issues. California to me is top 5 as the most beautiful states.

What major City in America is not a dump? Most are just not worth talking about the way NY, LA, Chicago stays in the news.
Fox News crowd active on slickdeals today. Please please share your politics here too- I can't get enough.

Typical Midwesterner response 🙄
Not all midwesterners are dumb! Just Michigan fans are mostly stupid. The rest of us will leave our parents' basement

LOL at those afraid of stepping foot in cities. How are y'all about to generalize a city with 8+ million people? FYI, there's more to NYC than the Times Square Elmos.

Of course there are parts of it not going to be nice; but there's parts of rural America I'd rather not visit other.

I've lived in almost every major city in the US - and guess what, they all have their pros and cons.

Oh we're going International? Yes there is a big world full of great clean cities. The complaints here make it seem as if it's a below average american city, if all we can do is a list of a few cities worldwide than I don't think it's the shithole it's made out to be. And yes, art-food-live music-nightlife-diversity, that all apart of culture
That NYC is a dump compared to those cities I listed is a big problem. It's below Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta and every other large US city except perhaps the similar decay in SF.

I'm not sure how staying for $250-400/at a nice hotel but in a dump of a city is a slick deal.

I grew up in a small town amidst farmland and now live in a major city, and I can confirm that folks who get their news from Fox and other right-wing outlets tend to have a very distorted view of what it's like to live here. Yes, there are challenges with housing and addiction, but there was poverty and teens on heroin in my small town too...

It's a shame that people get defensive when hearing truth.

Dallas is a famously boring city...the idea of even putting it in the same sentence as NYC when it comes to tourism is hilarious.

no, it's a shame that people literally compare DALLAS to the largest US city.

Yeah. This is why NYC is as broken as it is. Denial and living in the past.

Yeah, deflections like this are why things stay broken. Living in the past isn't fixing the subway, crime and homelessness. Oh well.

I never denied that most cities face those challenges, including NYC, but that doesn't change the fact that NYC is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
