Interesting...🤔

Here's the court case [ca.gov](pdf) that resulted in them having to include a P65 warning. It's regarding cadmium.

Here's their stance as declared in their website [vivanaturals.com] their position being the law is way too strict and that cadmium is a naturally occurring element that's also found in raw fruit, etc.

Googling how bad cadmium is: "Only a small amount of cadmium remains in the body after eating food contaminated with cadmium, but if consumed over a long period of time, cadmium can lead to kidney disease and cause bones to become weaker."

Just checked my Trader Joe's organic quinoa and don't see a P65 warning. Googled it and although a couple other products at TJ's have been flagged for P65, I don't see the quinoa being one of them. So...I guess I'll stick with $3.50/lb organic quinoa from TJ's, twice the price of this deal.

I think cheapest Costco option is $25 for 15 lb bag which is slightly less per lb.
(hope I am remebering right - its been a while since I bought this at Costco)

Website has it for 10.99 for a 4.5 lb. I believe the warehouse price is 8.99 (last time we bought it) but I could be wrong too....

It was 7.20 S&S for me, plus an additional coupon for my first S&S order for this item. I got it for 5.20 total, which is pretty slick

Sigh, I don't think I can get any food in the summer from Amazon. The package for shipping will get hot in the summer heat.

California's P65 warning is so broad and nonsensical that it has lost all utility. If they were consistent with their labeling standards then they would also give water, oxygen, and sugar warnings.

Do not get me wrong, there are some substances that do deserve the label, but because they include so much stuff that is not harmful it becomes useless, and if anything scaring people of many healthy food items such as certain products with grains and vegetables because of low levels of substances naturally occurring in soil.

In fact, the whole world should get a P65 label based on California standards because background levels of radiation in virtually all parts of the world cause higher risk of harm than most of the stuff they stick P65 warnings on.

Edit: It should also be noted that some companies go so far as print specific packaging just for CA that includes the P65 warning and distribute packaging without the warning elsewhere in the country. This way only people buying in CA will have the P65 warning on the box.

Be that as it may, I'm looking at the fact that the Trader Joe's quinoa doesn't have the P65 warning. TJ's exists in California and has other products that have the warning, so if the quinoa doesn't it must be because it has no issues. And if that's so, the question becomes why does this Viva quinoa have something that warrants it being flagged for P65.

Edit: I actually replied without seeing your edit, but that's why I googled it as well, to see if there's any evidence of P65 labeling on the TJ's quinoa elsewhere, other than what I have with me
