It's cute, but you may as well just grab your 7/8/9 and choke down with a putter stroke for a little chip from off the green.

I picked one up at an auction a few years back. I absolutely love it. Use your putt swing and never duff it

I started playing golf as a kid in 1992 and Chipping Wedges (and other unusual hybrids) have been around forever. They were always kind of like "the club that rich old guys bought when they already had 30 other clubs."

But I will say they definitey make chipping less awkward…I just don't know if this would be in my bag on every round, nust maybe a par 3 course where I might use it more.

I'm going to say the "list price" is very inflated since all of the other colors have a normal price of ~$30

It's a chipper, handy for those ones that are just past the fringe, too far for a putter and if you're like me likely to skull a pitch. That being said a 7 iron works just as well more or less.

I have one as well (not this specific brand/design though.) I agree. For the stuff far enough into the fringe that I can't putt it, but too close to the green for me to feel comfortable with my wedge it's perfect.

Like you said, use a putting swing. I even re-gripped mine with a putter grip. I feel like I have a lot more control than I do with a wedge.

My son, who's a serious golfer, used to give me a hard time about carrying it. He's now seen me make enough great chips with the thing that he'll encourage me to use it in the right situation. He named it "Billy Baroo." When I'm three yards out on the fringe I'll hear him say, "Time to pull out Billy..."

No pro players use these things. However, I'm not a pro and never will be a pro. So I love mine, as it makes the game more enjoyable for me.

I've had one but lost it and just recently purchased another. It eliminates flying past the green or chunking it a few feet. I was pretty good up to 20 yards with it. Not as good as when you perfectly chip with a wedge but most players can't.

My dad had one since the 90s and continues to use it today. I messed with it once back then but ended up learning to bump and run with my 8 iron instead, which is my go to for similar situations where I have enough green to work with and ball on the fringe (or even fairway with a well manicured enough path). The way I see it, why waste another club slot in your bag when you have something similar in there already? Just have to practice it a bit but with how slow you'll be swinging anyway (really just a putting motion for bump and run), it's not that hard.

Might be a dumb question but are these "legal" to use? I started late last year and have seen a disclaimer "allowed under the rules of golf" or whatever on items.

They are Legal but have to be built like a normal golf iron and not like a putter. Round grip and not longer than a 7 iron. Basically you dont need it, not enough room in the bag anyways. I will either putt right off the green or use a SW or 8Iron to bump and run it depending on flag position. Go to a practice green and hit 100 balls onto a green with a SW, PW or 8I until you get comfortable. Big Grin

Two differences: chippers have a straight face and a steeper lie angle.

True. For me, I'd have to drop a club to add this to my bag, but everyone has different preferences on club mix/selection.

Thank you. Got one for myself and two as gifts. Odd that the normal price of the all black club is only $36 but the silver is $80.
