After waiting forever for a decent price, I got a refurbished R7 for $999. Flash forward two months to today, it's now $799.
And I bought the R6 Mk.I at $1299.99, and it's now $1099.99
Don't know if any of you are waiting to pull the trigger, but I think this is as good it's going to get until December. Even then, it's hard to believe those prices will be better than this.
Also, if you see something you want but is out of stock, try calling Canon directly and tell them you want to take advantage of the loyalty program AND take advantage of the sales price.
Before I bought the R7, the sale went live when the call centers were closed, and you can only take advantage of the loyal program if you call in. I bought the body that same night anyway, because I thought they'd honor my claim and feared the body would sell out overnight (it did). Unfortunately, they would not honor my loyal program claim because, apparently, it can only be applied DURING purchase. The rep told me, though, if I wait next time to call, and the item I want is sold out, they'll honor the sale price AND loyalty program claim.
I'll be honest: I think this is a YMMV thing. Less something you can bet on and more of a safety net if you miss out on a product. Something to consider.
If only in a perfect world, everything you want to shoot is within 2x range and daylight lighting. That's the limitation of the cellphone. The majority of things you will want to photograph (not ego selfies) will be beyond 2x and that's when the detail falls off for cellphones. This still remains the same problem from 10+ years ago. This is why DSLRs still exist.
this isn't aimed at anyone specifically, but these types of cameras should not be sold to people who only can operate a smart phone of any type.
you really need to be a knowledgeable photographer to use these cameras or don't bother.
some people can't get beyond 2 controls: on and off, that is as deep as they go. i know a lady who has a bag of lens and various cameras, but she only uses the 'auto' feature on all her cameras. i asked her about the other basic controls like f stop, shutter, iso, or aperture.............no clue. these types need not apply.
these things are not iPhones taking Fake pictures, it is the difference between watching Lame media and Real independent media. the stuff on television doesn't cut it and neither does your iPhone knowledge.
basic videos on photography can help or YouTube will help you. if that is too much, don't touch this stuff; read this whole thread and find out why.
It also might be worth pointing out you are comparing an $800 phone to a cam from 13 years ago packing a sensor from 17 years ago that even then was a bare bones entry level camera.
I bought the camera for the reasons you said. The not everyday situations. But the white balance was always off and it is not easy to operate. But I accepted all that. The camera, for its time, took low noise images. So you could sharpen them a few times vs no times for anything else I had. Then my wife got an iPhone and it went into storage.
Tried to take a close picture of a guitar, couldnt do it. Half of the guitar is always out of focus. iPhone, perfect shot first try.
Tried to use it for video, no clean HDMI. That was the clincher for me. Why do you even have an HDMI port? Why do you have a button to remove the icons from the HDMI port but never actually remove ALL the icons? You would have to be the dumbest person on planet Earth to do that.
So yes back in the day, the iPhone was close enough to beat it many situations. Not all. And now, the modern iPhone vs that T3 is a joke. Way better pics.
So do you get a Canon knowing the software is bad. It cant even do 1/2 of the things you bought it for? Of get a better phone and does all you could ever ask, makes calls, plays games, emails, Teams meetings, etc. The Canon is a one trick pony and it shouldn't be. It has everything an iPhone has. CCD + CPU. I personally dont think people should be lemmings and just accept inferior design. No one should buy a Canon until they get their act together.
The reason I posted here was I looked up clean HDMI for T7 and found a person saying "Nope, no clean HDMI". Four gens after mine and the software still sucks. Nah, I'm good.
Seeing the cost coming to $999 for R7 yesterday I pulled the trigger to get one but very disappointed to see that canon cancelled my order today and their support does not know reason for cancellation . Any one other folks faced this issue ? Now they don't have R7 in stock for re order .

Canon probably has 200 software engineers working on their image processing. Apple has 10x that number. Apple also used the cloud and AI to clean up pictures. In other words, canon pictures are natural, iPhone pictures are gimmicky :-)

Apparently cancellations are normal. It's more like a lottery if you get to buy anything from them. I've just learned to expect it.
And yeah, that R7 bundle with 18-150mm is just about the best deal on there.

Most likely banned by Canon. They will auto cancel orders indefinitely. But there is a possibility that your method of payment got rejected or thought it was fraud.

Actually even selfies arent that good on phones when you look at the picture on anything bigger than a phone screen. Pics on phones look good because of the small screen size.
Had a racoon walk right next to me on my deck at night. Canon would not take a pic. wifes iPhone took perfect pics in 1.2 seconds. Whipped it out, swiped sideways, click click click. Racoon left and I still couldnt get the Canon to take a pic. Usability and good software >> Quality
Cell phones are great at some types of photos, but suck at others. Having a CPU can deal with some situations that just aren't possible with a dedicated camera and years of training.
I've outgrown what my travel-zoom and cell phone can handle. Need larger sensors, with some manual controls. Hard to get a cell phone camera to capture a sharp wildlife photo from 500m to 4000m away. Or action shots of different subjects. Just sayin'.
Oh, I know it's an absolute joke that people buy the stuff still. Actually they don't which is why Cannon is selling this stuff for fire sale pricing. I always lol when I look at the specs on most of these cameras and can't even do 4K60 video.
Canon is doing well. Since you obviously know nothing about photography or the industry, here you go: "Canon Statistics by Net Sales Share Overall, Canon's net sales have increased by 3.7% in 2023, accounting for $32.5 billion. The interchangeable lens camera market has accounted for 5.85 million units, an increase from last year" .May 7, 2024 Source: https://www.coolest-gadgets.com/canon-statistics

Trying to decide between t7 r100 r50 and r10 to replace a t2i from more than 12 years ago lol. It's my dad's old camera and having some issues. Based one reviews I think the minimum is the r50 at 420 which is a really good price, but ppl online keep pushing the r10 by for 200ish more I don't know how much wortth I'd get out of it. This is more of a hobby and trying to expand that so idk if I really need the extra dial that everyone likes.
