FYI, the S8U book cover keyboard does work with the S9U. The back cover does not though. I did make the camera cutout bigger using a knife and Dremel tool, but the flap that covers the S Pen won't close all the way (maybe the S9U doesn't have magnets on the top rear?). So, I tossed the back cover and got the Spigen Thin Fit Pro case for $50 on Amazon. The case has a kickstand and although it does not have a cover for the S Pen, it does have a holder which keeps the pen from falling out. The kickstand is much stiffer than the Samsung case, but the Spigen provides much more protection and has an opening to allow the S8U keyboard to dock with the S9U. So, for those who are on the fence about trading in their S8U for the S9U because of not wanting to spend $350 for a new/compatible book cover keyboard, I highly recommend keeping the S8U keyboard and spending just $50 for the Spigen case. You'll get better protection for the tablet and pretty much all the same functionality for a lot cheaper.

For anyone not even seeing s8 ultra as a possible trade-in, select the 1 TB S9 ultra first. Your discount may be causing the prices to be too low and not show.

Not the method I did since I don't have an S8. If you also don't have any S8, Amazon has them for 350 renewed. But using the method in this post, you can get the S8 to show up as $800 trade in, making the 256 GB model $200, total price $550. Cheapest way to get an S9 ultra starting from nothing.

The trade in value for S8 is only $700 now. Making buying from nothing(Amazon renewed S8 for $380 with tax ）cost $800 for me… charged tax is based originally price for CA?! not worth it.

I own a S8 tablet for a year and half. The tablet is mainly used for reading comic, PDF annotation, and media consumption. Now I traded it in to get a S9 ultra for $280 ($308 after tax). My justification is that I am paying $280 for these upgrade:

1. larger (14.6 vs 11) and better (OLED vs LCD) screen
2. better processor (Gen2 vs Gen1)
3. larger Memory (256GB/12GB vs 128GB/8GB)
4. Water/dust proof

There are some downside like slightly worse battery life and loss of portability (size/weight), but for my use case I think I can live with that

Don't try to scam Samsung by saying you have the most expensive trade in and then don't send it in. Samsung will disable the new device a couple days after the deadline to send the trade in. If you sell it before it's disabled and the buyers goes to the police, Samsung does assist law enforcement in tracking you down.

When I ordered my S8U my trade in (I think an S6 Lite, it was $500 trade in for something I bought for less then $200 over a year before) Fed Ex lost it and they still gave me full credit. And Fedex sent me $100 for the lost item, the max payout for shipping with no insurance.

It is called fraud and there are legal consequences. It would be pretty dumb to do that. I believe if you don't send in the device by the time frame Samsung will try to put additional charge (trade-in value) on the original payment method. I don't know what if someone decline the payment, I am guessing Samsung might give the case to collection company or some sort.

I was trading in my S6 Lite, too. I bought the S6 Lite for less than $200 in Costco (when they were running a discount). Over the time my S6 Lite starts showing a green line on display (come and go though), and sometimes it goes to a (finite) boot loop. I only got $250 trade-in value when purchasing a S8. I don't have any major complaints with S8, but larger OLED screen on S9 Ultra is hard to resist.

LMAO none of this actually happens. Please find one Case where Samsung has worked with law enforcement in tracking down a random bad trade. They can remotely disable imei on phones and cellular enabled tables but that's it. They will try to recharge your form of payment for the trade in value

This is true. They don't really care to block the IMEI. My brand new samsung Tablet that I ordered from Samsung.com was stolen. When I call them to block the IMEI they don't really care and gave me a run around.

Years ago I bought an s21 Ultra from Samsung bundled with several other electronics. They only delivered the phone, and not any of the other add-ins. After multiple calls to Samsung telling them my order was delivered incomplete I gave up and submitted a chargeback on my CC. Made clear to my cc company that the order was delivered partially incomplete and received a full refund including for the phone. I used that s21 ultra for almost three years with no issue/ban/block from Samsung. Just adding my 2 cents.
