I get the functionality of the magic keyboard with an iPad Pro. Honest question: what's magic about a magic keyboard or mouse in this desktop all in one setup?
Two aspects (not necessarily magical) based on my past usage of the iMac 24" when it first came out:
- you get a keyboard and mouse (or trackpad) in a special color, which Apple does not sell separately in their store, which is why resale value on eBay has remained high
- the keyboard's touch ID feature lets you unlock your computer from sleep, pay for items, and recall passwords much more quickly and conveniently - you get this with any recent Mac laptop, but you need the pricey Touch ID keyboard to get this with the iMac or Mac Mini

Can anybody comment on the condition of Factory Reconditioned Apple computers from Woot?

Thanks OP. I opted for the 512GB SSD for $50 more. $699 is the lowest I have ever seen for that configuration. While I would have preferred classic Silver, the Green looks pretty good to me.

These 8-core models also come with the Touch ID keyboard, which is a nice upgrade (as well as the 4 USB ports and gigabit ethernet). And because it's an M1 it will be able to use Apple's local AI features with macOS Sequoia.

Yes, "Factory Reconditioned" isn't guaranteed to be refurbished by Apple, but FWIW I got an M1 Pro 16" MBP from Woot about 6 months ago with the same "Factory Reconditioned" condition with 90-day Woot warranty. It was indeed an Apple Refurb (essentially brand-new) and had no problems getting qualified for the AppleCare 1-year warranty by chatting with Apple support.

Sort of surprised this thread isn't getting any attention (yet).
You would think the term FACTORY reconditioned would mean Apple direct

Usually I'm the guy who hate on mac 8gb and tell people don't buy it. But for this price, as a Mac with great screen, it's totally worth it as a recreational desktop to watch some YouTube.

Plus 8 GB RAM... Hard pass.
8gb is okay for YouTube or even light photo editing but got pressured out with even 10 pages in chrome.

Woot doesn't refurbish them themselves. It's third party and it varies by sale since they act as middle men for different companies selling products they refurbish. Could be new or could have issues.

Sometimes they have sales on refurbished items directly from Apple so they are in new shape, warranty, etc. I prefer to order from these sales since I know the item will be good.

Yeah, my Macbook Air with 8 GB of ram would crash all the time (I'm a tab fiend and run browser plugins too) so I was forced to upgrade to 16gb of ram. I assume Safari uses way less memory but it's a crappy browser imo.

Is this an intel macbook air? I currently have 106 tabs open and I'm doing fine with 8gb of ram on the m1 imac.

If it were a surface product at these specs it would be getting lit up with negative comments...
Well windows hasn't been shown to work well with specs even close to this. MacOS has though. I agree they should include more though, even if they defaulted to a minimum 12 GB it would be better than shipping computers with 8 GB these days.

512gb is no longer available. It's almost like it was on a timer to disappear 😄
