I appreciate the contribution of the link, but I feel parents or expectant parents really research and choose their car seats based on their and their baby's needs. So it should be an apples to apples price comparison, not a "this car seat is lower cost" comparison. Cost would just be one of the factors in their decision.

Also construction quality Diono are steel frame.
And QXT goes up to 10 years old, baby seat to booster.

Even a Graco 4DXL is like $200+ and I think those are more comparable again without a steel frame.

Not slim fit like Dionos if you need 3 in backseat so not even a fair comparison.

Quote from E.K :
This is from Consumer Reports:

"Spending a lot of money doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the best car seat. Many midpriced models work as well as or better than pricier ones. An expensive model may give you more features for ease of installation or use, but paying more does not guarantee a safer seat. "

What you're quoting is obvious and has no relevance.

Using your own source, Consumer Reports has crash protection ratings of basic, better, and best. So if they were all "just as safe", they wouldn't need that category.

To add 1 more vote against Diono, I have a 3QXT and I absolutely despise it. I've never been able to securely install it in at least 4 cars I've tried in. I bought a Britax Boulevard Clicktight and it's so easy to install securely.

My amazon review below:

I'm a guy with average strength and I've never been able to get this car seat tight installing it by seatbelt. The belt path is such that most of it is covered/enclosed within plastic and the only place you can pull is right next to the seatbelt buckle and it's impossible to pull hard enough to get it tight. Even when I pull to the point of straining my muscles, I cannot get it tight enough. The seat will tilt practically on its side when I move it left and right along the belt path. I'm going to look for a different car seat.

As other mention, this thing takes up way too much space front to back and makes either the driver or passenger sit with their knees touching the dashboard or both if you dare install in the middle back seat. The back middle seat is supposed to be safest since it's farther from both left and right impacts.

The belt path is small and is difficult to push the belt through and there is an existing buckle of some kind in there to further get in the way and there is some crevice where the bucket can get caught. Brilliant Seattle engineering!

The side impact pod is a joke, it dangles and falls off while driving, what is the point of this anyway?

The cupholder is a joke, it's so flimsy

I also have 4 of these older model seats, 1 Rainer & 3 Radian in 2 vehicles for 7+ years. Many 20-30 hour driving road trips and countless 4-7 hour runs. Kept them great facing until about 5 years old as it's safer and they were always comfortable. Great product and would buy again.

These are a PITA to install. They are also very long or tall, so in smaller cars they will definitely hit the front seat when you install rear facing. You can buy a pad that will give you and extra inch of room or so, but it is just a big foam pad that goes under the seat and seems kind of janky.

They do fit three across though, and they are nice and roomy for the kids. If you do three across they absolutely bump into each other.. which the manufacturer says is ok, but has anyone else said that?

Overall they are much better front facing than rear facing, but I wish they had a belt clamp like so many other brands do so they were easier to install and get secure.

With all of the tool deals I've looked at lately, I saw this and thought... "What? Milwaukee is making car seats now?" Then I saw the brand and the other colors ha!
