I bought this years ago on Vudu (which is now Fandango). I had no idea it was remastered at the time, so it was really cool to get to see this old show in HD. Kinda crazy that all these shows made in the 80s and 90s were edited on VHS and will be SD forever, but the 70s and earlier shows shot on film can be remastered and made to look amazing.

Though I did notice that every once in a while you come across a scene that's out of focus. I wonder if TV productions knew about this and didn't care at the time, because who would ever notice it on a 26" CRT television? There's no need to make sure the focus is always perfect since it all looks the same on a TV broadcast.

Anyway, the show is great family friendly entertainment, and a lot funnier than you might think. I wonder how kids today would like it - the show holds up well because it's a period piece and doesn't have outdated references to the time period it was made in, but the pace might be frustrating for people with a lower attention span.

For some reason this bundle does not include the three movies that were made to conclude the series. That was fine with me though, two of them were really bad and the third had good storytelling but was disappointing.

If you look at the clarifying reason the child gave to Mr Ingles for making the statement with that word, it seems like a pretty powerful anti-racist commentary they wrote into the show.

They also had Mrs Olson as a villain right from the start, which also continued with her objections to Nelly marrying a Jewish person. And they portrayed him respectfully while portraying Mrs Olson (the wealthiest white woman) as the scum of the earth over and over again

In season one they have one character acting as racist towards an Indian while Mr Ingles calls him out as the barbarian and they also portray the Indian as saving lives when he didn't have to and the man finally admitting he was wrong for his previous actions.

Sometimes being wholesome calls for calling out the injustices of the world.

Lowest prices I've seen in both platforms. I hope Apple iTunes will match.

Bought this for $1.99/season on the last sale, so a good $2.92 cheaper here.

My kids love LHOTP! We always laugh at Nellie and Harriet Olson.

I love how there's a free live LHOTP channel on Roku that plays the whole series over and over and then the movies and starts again. Sometimes I will randomly put on rhe channel and it reminds me of being a kid when this was actually on the air with commercials . Then if I get sucked into it I'll open Fandango/Vudu where I own it and watch it commercial free. Such a classic timeless show.

We'll definitely get to see those 80s and 90s shows in HD eventually - computers get better and better each year at guessing/interpolating the missing information. Much further into the future, we'll even be able to get rid of the letterboxing - computers will guess the entire missing parts of the scene on either side. Purists will scream bloody murder at that, I suspect. Wink
Totally agree how great that show was, though. We'll likely not see its like ever again Frown

Bought years ago on a sale. We like the show and have watched it a few times over but it's also nice to have play when company is visiting.

Thanks OP

Have been binge watching season 1 on bluray and was thinking about buying more seasons. But at this price couldn't pass up the whole series on VUDU for about the same cost of a single season on BluRay.

I guess I'm just an idiot, but I bought this and it's a complete PITA to get it to run

I assumed I could buy it, click on it and it would just work. hahaha no. It's making me download some dippy Movies & TV app thing on my computer - which is taking its sweet old time.

Experiences like this reinforce why piracy is so common

As a kid in the late 90s we were forced to watch this show and the Waltons as punishment. We had to write a paragraph about what we learned, a lot of times we made up things we learned from the show we watched. Interesting fact, there is an episode of this show where the boy Albert is practically catfish mind you this was in the 70s and early 80s.

The wholesome show that doesn't mind using the n word (which this website apparently censors). As a kid I had no idea what jewish people were (other than another religion) and the show give me the impression they were a form of gypsy.
