Would recommend looking at other kobalt 24v tools first and if you find ones you like then get this. It's much nicer/easier to have a set of tools that use the same battery pack type. But seems like a good deal overall.

Showing regular price online for me in Florida, $149 here. Unless this is an in store only deal, but don't think it usually works that way at Lowes. Maybe ymmv...
I was having the same problem till I checked on the app and it was listed for $100

Own a cheap brushed Greeworks chainsaw and the chain speed is too slow causing the chain to skip a lot over the wood when cutting. This 6" chainsaw chain speed is 7.5 mps. The Kobalt 12" Chainsaw is 13.5 mps and Ridgid 12" Chainsaw is 10mps. So is this chainsaw going to jump around a bit when cutting with the slower chain speed? Its for the wife and having it skip and not stay positioned when cutting makes it unsafe imho.

Also, does this stop immediately after releasing trigger?
No experience here, but chain speed is just one number and will not reveal performance wrt RPM to torque. The reviews look really good.

Can't personally recommend the string trimmer. I have it and have to fix the string several times every time I use it.
Maybe try carefully respooling the line. That's an issue out of the box with GW also, but once get it so the 'next' line is always on top it feeds much better.

Hedge trimmer looks pathetically weak
What, you got xray vision or something and can rate it based on looks ? So here is to counter your faulty visual analysis. I have this so the analysis is hands on. The opening on the tines is 3/4 inch and as long as it fits it will cut it or chew through it. I've used this on old ground cover with woody stalks goes through it like butter, even the thick stalks it will chew through it. Oh, and I've had it for 5+ years so reliability is there. Since I don't have xray vision like you or clairvoyance, I'm forced to use hands on actual performance to base my opinion on.

Same for me, quite a hassle to keep extending the string multiple times in one trimming.
If your string gets shorter fast, you might want to go to the next thicker string. The cut might not be as clean because the thicker string will spin slower, but wears down more slowly.

I have this and it works awesome, use it all the time.
I agree, it works awesome... when I use my 4ah or 6ah batteries. The 2ah just wears down too fast, then it either stops from a safety that's built into the battery(I think) or or it gets pinched in the wood I'm cutting. With the 4ah or 6ah battery, it's a beast. It's light enough to use 1-handed!

Peace

Edit: Nevermind! I have the 12", not the 6". It might work great on the 2ah, I just don't know.

I don't have this so can't comment on how quickly it stops. But the chain skating around is a combination of 2 issues. First is how sharp the chain is, might need sharpening if it isn't digging in. Second is technique. The bottom of the bar where the "teeth" are supposed to be. Put that against the branch first before the bar makes contact. Use that as a fulcrum and brace as you tilt the bar down to start digging into the wood. That should help the bar bite into the wood enough to start a slot then move the chainsaw around to maintain the cutting as you see fit.

Also, as an add. Make sure you spin it up to full speed first before you make contact with the wood. Putting it on the wood then pulling the trigger isn't as effective. Chain running at full speed just works better.

I recently got a sun Joe 24V. It comes on sale for $110 including a hedge trimmer and blower. It's not brushless and works good enough for the average amateur. I can imagine that this brushless kobalt will work even better

I'm not personally endorsing or vouching for any of these, but just following on to the OPS's with some similarly good deals.

I've "Slickdealed" myself into a whole collection of Kobalt 24v "indoor" hand tools and batteries - all of which I'm very happy with. However, I'd also previously acquired a collection of Greenworks 80v outdoor tools, including everything in this list (via straight shaft trimmer and attachments), plus a [Greenworks compatible - after a bit of Dremel work] Kobalt 80v self-propelled mower.. If it wasn't for those, I'd at least be giving these a try.
If you use a router with edge guide and are willing to modify the battery housing of Greenworks 80v or Kobalt 80V, the modifications will work seamlessly and look nearly seamless.
I'd be concerned that with a dremel-type rotary tool, the result would looked like a hacked mess. Maybe there is a specific attachment that would work well, but I'd be concerned with a free hand modification.

As far as Kobalt 24V line, these are probably made by Chervon rather than Greenworks, but in my experience they do a good job. I have the 12Inch chainsaw and it's fairly torquey and very effective for homeowner type work. Much better than my previous chainsaws of similar sizes.

I did exactly this. The Kobalt 5AH is plenty for my lawn, so no need to mod the mower or GW batteries. Instead, I only modded the Kobalt battery. Used a Dremel Drill press to keep it fairly neat, locking it down and moving the battery below it. Biggest struggle was removing the melted plastic as it went.
Is may just be in my head, but the bigger battery even seems to give my GW blower a bit more gusto.

I have this and it works great for what it's intended for…small quick cuts without dragging out a chainsaw for bigger diameter branches or getting a workout with manual loppers…I do quick prune ups and small trimming off smaller pieces of bigger branches after the big saw does the job of cutting it down..I got mine last year in a combo pack with the 24V fan accessory

I have the pole saw and it works well. IIRC 11 ft reach which is about as long as electric ones go.

Note it's a common problem with kobalt batteries not charging right up to 4 bars. I'm not sure if I've ever seen mine at 4 bars but it works fine so whatever.

Thank you for writing this. I have the same problem and it really annoys me. What other options are you thinking about?

Ha, I'm so invested in the Kobalt system, I kind of just deal with it. But I also have a Greenworks 80V mower, so I wouldn't be opposed to trying something in that system for the right price.
