That's a different brand. The real Sharkbite ones are $13.45 at Home Depot.

Zero evidence of this, just anecdotes and they all tend to be from plumbers. So that either means plumbers have something against sharkbite, or they just happen to see a lot of failures, which they do. That said, there is nuance to installing sharkbites - the pipe needs to be clean and prepped, and the fitting fully inserted. Many people don't want to bother with the depth/deburring tool, so they do neither. Ultimately the seal on sharkbites is just some gaskets, so if you don't clean the pipe, leave burrs on it, or don't push it all the way on (which is deceptive because there's an inbetween position where it seems like it might be all the way seated but it's not), you're prone to failure. However, that's just like saying soldering is crap because whatever dummy installed it didn't prep the pipe, didn't use flux, didn't put enough solder, etc etc.

These are discontinued, Sharkbite is replacing them with their new style connection. We just ordered a bunch for wholesale from Cash Acme this morning.

FWIW, Home Depot has the max version of these for $12.45 each or buy 12 or more for $9.34 each.
Or a 4 pack for $42.37
Not real sure what the difference is between the regular vs 'max', but for anyone interested.
