Listen people, and listen closely. These are saltwater reels, built like tanks mostly, have several seals to keep water out. They aren't going to be as smooth as a Shimano stradic, but these are workhorses and well suited for catfishing or pompano, redfish, flounder, basically anything in bays, inshore, or surf fishing. The price is absurdly low. Buy!

What? It's not even my thread, and I am not Walmart, have no affiliation with them or Penn. I'm really not sure what pharmacy you robbed, but you're crazy.

These were on sale several months back for $129 and were a heck of a deal then. If you don't understand value, I can't help you.

Great price for a great saltwater reel.

The rods are nothing special, but will certainly be fine for anyone who doesn't know any better.

Either size will work for most applications. The 4500 isn't too small to do what the 5500 can and the 5500 isn't too big for what the 4500 can. The rod (medium or medium heavy) may determine what one you should go with. If using more to soak bait, I'd say go 5500. If for throwing lures, go 4500 (just because it will be an all around lighter combo).

Note, rod length is more suited for pier, boat, kayak fishing. At 7' it wouldn't be the best rod length for surf casting from the beach. You can certainly do it and can always get a larger rod later on to pair with it for that use.

These reels are built to last. I don't know how, but walmart will have these for 159 every now and then. For $98 it's a steal. In for 1

I'm no longer a fan of Penn. I had a problem with my last Spinfisher reel and called, emailed and even reached out on twitter for a replacement part and was completely ignored. I followed up multiple times over a period of two weeks.

Nothing.

So i'm all done buying from that brand.

If I didn't have a vintage spinfisher that refuses to die, I would totally pick this up. Great price.
