Yes, you should be worried as the drone would be banned from using FCC spectrum nationwide. No one is sure how existing drones will be curtailed to use the spectrum (Maybe it will be in spirit and the existing drones can fly without a hiccup) but Iwould personally not buy a drone myself until further clarity is provided about the ban

Really good deal. I just got this (but the "Fly More" combo). Love it so far, but it's also my 1st drone. The obstacle avoidance is very impressive.

This particular package comes with the standard size battery, which is actually what you want if you want to stay under the 250g limit (where u don't have to register it). The Fly More combo comes with the extended battery, which adds ~3-4 min of Fly time, but pushes it past 250g, triggering the broadcast ID feature, and requiring registration.

You're right. The "Fly More Combo" is 3 regular batteries. The "Fly More Combo Plus" has 3 extended "plus" batteries.

Personally, I think the upgrade to the RC 2 controller so you don't have to use your phone every time is worth it.

I've seen some comments alluding to a preference for the remote with the screen built in. And not any comments saying why that might not be preferred. Look, tons of people love the screen being built in, it's so much more convenient. However, the downside is that you do not have access to any 3rd party apps. So just know and understand that going into it.

if you prefer tracking and obstacle avoidance features then yes, spend the extra for that features. I started with a Mavic air 1st gen that was small and such an amazing drone for its time, and have all tracking and obstacle avoidance features, then I changed to mini 2 because the video improved and the weight but they knock the tracking and obstacle avoidance features, flying the mini 2 for 2 years, and it was alright in the beginning, after a while I really missed the tracking features, and mini 4 pro added so many new features for the tracking, so I end up upgrading to mini 4 pro.

As someone who knows nothing about drones, what's the use of third party apps?

With or without a license, you definitely cannot fly a drone near an airport.

from the faa website you can with airspace authorization

For flight near airports in controlled airspace, drone operators must receive an airspace authorization prior to operation. Airspace authorizations come with altitude limitations and may include other operational provisions.Apr 25, 2024

I just bought Mini 3 Pro bundle from Costco for $650. Now wondering if I should get this one and return the other. Only good thing the other bundle has is 3 batteries with charger and $100 less expensive. Any suggestions?

It's a no brainer, return the mini 3 pro. There are BIG improvements on Mini 4 pro which will make it a better drone even when Mini 5 comes out and it will hold its value in resale. While the cameras are very similar Mini 4 adds the following:
1) Omini Directional Obstacle Avoidance - this feature along is worth, peace of mind!
2) Way Points - you may use this in complex compositions
3) More stable in higher winds - better internals
4) More stable while take off and landing due to legs in front like mini 3
5) Better Spotlight and Tracking features - now that it has side sensors
6) Better remote transmission protocol with ocusyncs new version
7) Cruise Control - again such a great feature
8) Slightly more stable gimble in higher winds
9) Object sensing at higher speeds of uptown 12m/s vs <10.5 m/s for Mini 3 Pro
10) Ability to shoot in D-Log M and color grade like a pro later.
11) Better night visibility with an auxiliary light at the bottom
12) Faster Charging with a higher voltage limit 8.6v vs 8.5v
13) Internal Storage of 2GB
14) Night Vision

At this price point and in this moment of time, Its like buying iPhone X with iPhone 15 is in the market. The features, the resale value, the better software and master shots, tracking, cruise control, night mode, hyperlapses etc.

Now 80% of the time you wont need the features above, but you have already spend close to $650 for an extra $100 you get better ROI, the one battery less is not a big deal as batteries can be added later depending on how much you fly. In 90% of the cases, with 2 batteries, on vacation etc, you should be good. If you are professional you would want to anyways upgrade to the bigger battery and register your drone. At this moment of time no one should be buying Mini 3 Pro. I expect it to go on sale soon for $500. At that price, it would make sense if you are an occasional flyer and want to take a dronie or 2, but at $650, please goto Costco first thing in the morning and return it!

DJI is not the only game in town making software for flying their drones. There are companies providing alternative with different tools and interfaces. Then also if you're using drones for work, you may need a particular 3rd party app (but you'd probably already know this in that scenario).

This is really a good deal. I assume you can return your mini 3 so the cost difference is a little over $320 to have better video quality and obstacle avoidance. If you don't mind using your phone with the controller, it is definitely worth it for the upgrade.

I used my mini 2 with my phone and it took a little time to set up every time. I got my mini 4 pro a few months ago for $1000 with the screen for my European trip. I was not too impressed with the obstacle avoidance feature because it hit the power line and crashed shake head. I now have to send it in for repair and may end up paying for the repair cost.

Maybe he will want to use the SDK for his drone perhaps? Show me one Mini 4 Pro video better than this one from the Mini 3 Pro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOq__--cMBE

The cameras are similar so the end result is the same looking video. Same can be said for Mini 3 as well. But when you take into account how easy Mini 4 makes it to get those shots, better obstacle avoidance, better tracking, better color grading, it's like no brainer. Can someone make a good stable video on IPhone 15 without a gimbal if he is a Pro, yes. But someone using that iPhone 15 pro with a gimbal will have a lot easier time taking that shot. Also night mode on Mini 4 which Mini 3 Pro can't do. Other things like augmented reality while return to home, night light, cruise control make the drone safer, easier and better. The product is new the SDK's may come eventually.

At this moment of time anyone recommending Mini 3 Pro is someone who already has it and is trying to justify his purchase.

It's like saying a slower car is better as you will be less inclined to speed. That's why I bought the Toyota instead of Ferrari. Show me one state that allows a Ferrari to go over the speed limit, so both Ferrari and Toyota will do the same speed. But you are forgetting one thing… with Toyota you goto your destination. With Ferrari, you Arrive!

The SDK for Mini 4 may come eventually, it's fairly new in the market and as with all SDK's, they do take time. There is no guarantee, but then again it's a very niche use case.

On a more serious note, it is understandable that owners of Mini 3 Pro are feeling bitter sweet and in a spiral of justifying their investment. It's a human nature and very understandable and I do feel your pain and am very sorry for your loss. But for those who are still in the return window, it would be criminal on our part to advise them wrong so that they end up making a wrong decision.

Again not saying you have a bad drone with Mini 3 Pro, and I am truly sorry for the pain and hurt you are going through and coping mechanisms of SDK's etc. But please note that life is beautiful and focus on the positives. We are here for you if you need.

Don't be ridiculous. I have a Mavic 3 Pro, not interested that much in the Minis. I didn't recommend anything to the OP, just wanted to point out a reason why some people don't move off their current Mini 3 Pro. I bought the Mini 4 Pro earlier this year but only to give it away since I have quite a few drones and they are all on O3 so I'm not ready to leap. This includes Avata so I haven't yet picked up the Avata 2 yet. Obviously if you were buying today and you have no drones, I would recommend the Avata 2 and the Mini 4 over the Avata and the Mini 3 but I have RC Pro and a ton of Mini 3 batteries, it doesn't make sense for me. I have nearly a dozen Avata batteries and I have the FPV....so I'm just not ready especially with O4 reports being iffy. If the FPV2 comes soon, then I have a case. Obviously if the guy has to option to pack it up and return it, no problem but I only read the reply email and it make it sounds like a landslide when it isn't....it's a small improvement. I got my Mini 3 Pro on day one so it is absolutely ridiculous to think I would know the Mini 4 Pro comes at some point. When I first heard the rumors, I made it a point to skip it at that time so long time ago.

Let's be honest, there will be no SDK for Mini 4 and you know it. Just like my Mavic 3 Pro won't get one.

Honestly I will never get a Mini 4 Pro and at this point, it's too late. I have to wait for the Mini 5. I'm skipping Air 3 as well and glad I did (for the same reason) but Air3S/4 is coming soon so we'll see. Honestly, I'm just waiting on Mavic 4 Pro and hope it beats the ban deadline.
