The fan assembly has a built in charger so the nice thing is you can use it with a battery, plugged in, or plugged and charging while the fan is running. This thing is nice to have next to you while working, camping, fishing, napping, and especially in the tent during the summer. I got the tool only fan for $50 last Prime Day.
Every workspace needs a fan. Get one that you can take from job to job, or move around the workshop. The Worx Nitro 20V Power Share Cordless Work Fan with Ready Charge is perfectly designed to meet that requirement. Small and lightweight enough to be portable, powerful enough to cool down or ventilate a room. Use it anywhere on battery power for up to 6 hours on Low speed, or 2 hours on High, with a standard 2.0Ah battery. Or take advantage of its Ready Charge functionality and plug it in and charge the battery while the fan is still in use. Low speed operates at 0-1500 RPM/310 CFM, High at 2500 RPM/450CFM. To put it in perspective, that's as much high-volume air output as a heavy-duty leaf blower. Yet this fan's blade diameter is only 9 in, and it weighs just 5 lbs., so it's easy to transport and store. The head rotates 360 degrees so you can blow or ventilate in whichever direction you need to. The convenient hanging hook means you can place it up high and hang it from a shelf, beam, pipe, or pretty much anything. It also has mount holes on the back so you can install it on the wall for a more permanent placement. This cordless work fan is part of the Worx Nitro Series of battery-powered tools, engineered to deliver more performance and run time than other battery-operated tools on the market.

And how would this compare to say a shop fan in a garage for working out in the summer? That's what I need, but I like the idea of also being able to take it to the pool or beach as a secondary use

This is where I got mine:

The sale comes around quite frequently so keep it on your watch list. I got mine for $50 last PD, its lowest price in the last year was $40. Hopefully it will come down for PD in 2 weeks.
Comparison: it is nowhere near a shop fan in terms of strength/air movement (cfm). A shop fan will always be better. This is a nice little fan that needs to be right next to you to be effective. I use it for the activities mentioned above and I love it. I have not compared it to other battery fans. The deciding factor for me was price and the built in charger. Hope this helps!
