Gauges are thickness of wire. Lower gauge is thicker and able to conduct higher amperage. Generally, 12g is more or less the standard for 15 amps for 100ft or less cable lengths. The longer the cable and higher amperage (more electrical draw) will require a lower numbered grade thickness to ensure the wire doesn't get too hot or burn.

On the back of the Sam's one it says 1560W max. 13A x 120V = 1560W.
