Put some plastic wrap around the magnet so that when you remove the debris you won't have all those tiny iron shavings stuck inside the crevices where the magnet is attached.

Any reason why it needs to weigh 50lbs?

I like their more expensive ones more because they are of course better, but yes- this one is gonna do better than the handheld.
They are both good. This small one is good for tight spaces. I have both and need them because lots of roof replacements (including my own) due to a hailstorm in March.

I have one of these I got from a previous SD. It's pretty mediocre in terms of magnet strength, it will pick up nails and on a clean floor no problem but you have to get pretty close. If the nail is in a pile of wood shavings it's more of a crap shoot.

TLDR: typical HF, not a bad deal at HF prices but applications are limited.

This is how you season a magnet. Plus, it's inevitable.

maybe 50lb means without gravity
Pounds refer to the force of gravity exerted on items and not to the mass of items.

Just got mine today and what a joke. It can barely lift 10% of the rated capacity. Even at this price I'm returning it out of spite. Geesh what a promoted deal. We need a new category called Slick Crap...
