Speeds are mediocre with the possibility of early failure. Samsung is best.

Why would I pay $35 for a card that has speed I don't need for my use case instead of $27 for the card that does what I need it to do?

At this point, I believe you can get a fake from *anywhere* and therefore it is important that any microSD card you buy, test it before putting it into service. The good news is the test are 100% so a fake card will not somehow slip past you. Also most places you buy from, you won't get stuck with a fake should you encounter one. You can always get a refund or an exchange. That being said, this whole business about fakes is irrelevant. That is, unless you are a sucker and you just don't know what is going on. After 10+ years of fakeness, that would be on you for not knowing. That's like getting an email from a Nigerian prince. If you don't know by now.... There is no retailer who is immune from fakes. Less likely, sure but not to the point where you can open the package, insert the card, and then go on vacation without checking. That's just crazy talk.

There were be quite a handful of microSD cards on sale just like last year. The 1TB might even jump in. Makes so sense to buy now unless you absolutely need one for "tomorrow." Or, if you time it right, keep the package unopened with the option to return it later.

I actually need a new 512GB MicroSD, but I'm gonna wait for Prime day and hope they have the Samsung Pro Plus on sale.

I've never heard of fakes in the new stock at B&H or Adorama. Best Buy is probably a safe bet, too. These are all companies that have robust supply chains and a good reputations for selling genuine stuff.

Places to be careful are websites with a marketplace approach like Amazon, ebay, New Egg, and of course Walmart.

If you are willing to go through a thorough memory card vetting process, that's great. I just want a card that won't wipe out all my photos on the card from a corruption because some scammer formatted a small card to look like a big one.

Amazon is perhaps the sketchiest place to get memory cards that isn't a flea market. It is awash in fakes, even when "Sold by Amazon."

Ken is right, though, that this is not an especially fast card. If you want content to upload and download quickly, or will be shooting 4K video or something, this is not the best card for you. For photography and many other use cases, though, it very well could be perfectly fine. It's not a flagship product line for SanDisc, either, but the cost cutting Walmart version.
I've been buying micro sd cards for years from Amazon (since the max storage was 128GB). Every time I purchased from "Sold by Amazon" and so far, I've never received a fake.

I started with Sandisk (since they were like the only companies available at the time making micro sd cards), but have moved on to different brands over the years (PNY, Samsung, and I'm currently using a Amazon branded 1TB lol). That probably helped me avoiding fakes since they aren't as common with the other less known brands while Sandisk or Samsung there are plenty of them.

Would you use this in nintendo switch? or anyone has experience within any gaming device for performance and endurance?
I bought two of these last week for new Switches in my household and they were just fine. I ended up canceling a $45 card shortly after I found these which had the same stats as these. I read somewhere that the ImageMate line is comparable to SanDisk ultra and rebranded for Walmart, but I don't know if that's factual.

Good for saving basic picture/photo captures but slow (1) v10 and not good for videos on a gopro, drones etc which would be better with speed ratings of (3) v30 or better.

I bought one of these off Amazon in May to use in my Switch. The switch got quite a bit of attention since that time. Zero problems. You do not need to spend more.

i check all my cards 100% regardless of the merchant's "supply chain" and "reputation." it's not a "thorough vetting process" that you have to "go thru" but much easier than that. it's 2024, not 2004.

I figured 3x the read/write speed was worth the ~$10 diff for sanity sake of transferring data, but that's just me:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

BH had this PNY U3 for ~$30 a while back too
Read/write speeds are almost definitely nowhere near that different. The whole speed certification logo is pretty irrelevant nowadays, it's just the minimum baseline but pretty much every modern card from any major brand far exceeds it. Just like how the PNY card you linked to only has read speeds up to 100mb/s, but the Sandisk one is up to 150mb/s read speeds, so in theory it would be 50% faster for transferring data (of course again, this is just labelling and not likely real world performance numbers).

If this is the OLD VERSION, it will not work on all.
There are TWO versions of this SD Card. An OLD version and NEW version.
