Light Phone III
$399 valid through July 15th

The Light Phone III is everything you already love about the Light Phone, done a little bit better, and with a camera. It's faster, has a bigger screen, metal frame, USB-C, a loud speaker, flashlight, finger print sensor, and adds 5G with one global model you can travel with. It is the most practical way to ditch your smartphone for good.

The value of the Light Phone is not necessarily in any specific feature, but rather the experience we call 'going light'. When we are living our lives through hyper-connectivity, going light is a profound shift. Our users describe the hours they get back each day, and the peace of mind that comes from more intentional internet usage.

Light is not just another tech company. We build all of the tools from scratch to ensure there are absolutely no third party apps tracking you. With 'Surveillance Capitalism' and the 'Attention Economy', the Light Phone represents a different option. You are the customer, not the product. This is a phone for humans.

At it's core, the Light Phone III is a simple phone with a camera and some optional tools available. All of our tools are built around intentional use.

Currently the available tools include an alarm, a timer, a calculator, a calendar, a directory, directions, notes/voice memo, and a simple music or podcast player. We will continue to roll out more utility oriented tools with ongoing software updates, always optionally and never pre-installed.

There is not currently a music streaming tool for platforms like Spotify, or a way to call/message with other platforms like Signal or Whatsapp. There is not a Rideshare tool available, either. These features may be possible in future software updates.

The phone itself has gps, bluetooth, finger print ID, a noise cancellation mic, camera, flashlight, supports voice-to-text, and can be used as a personal hotspot.

For the Light Phone III we've also added some hardware to support future features that will not be available when they begin to ship in January such as a potential digital wallet with the NFC chip or video calls/accessibility features with a front-facing camera.

While considering additional functionality for the Light Phone III, it's important to remember all of the features it will never have. The Light Phone III will never have social media, internet browsing, email, news, or ads. There are simply no infinite feeds.

I love that this exists and I hope it catches on. The mental health and productivity benefits must be huge.

Seems that way, though I like the idea. No reason software makers for Android/iOS couldn't offer a "focused" or "light" UI that limits these much more capable phones to only certain apps and features.

Seems like this Light Phone will be vaporware since they are having to develop and maintain their own applications. I can't see it being a sustainable business.

The LightPhone is a non-smartphone for people who want to detox from a smartphone or break serious smartphone addiction. I have the LightPhone II, and I really like it. It's just a tool for calling, texting, and a few other things that aren't distracting or attention-grabbing. Some people use the LightPhone on weekends because they want a break from their smartphone.

With the price tag comes great customer service, frequent software updates, and timely bug fixes. Also, the phone isn't cheap or poorly made. It's pretty high quality. I'm happy with mine and I'll likely get the Light Phone 3 when it comes out because it has been a great phone that keeps me off the screen and more present in life. (Not judging others, just sharing my perspective.)

No e-book support? The Palm Pilot had e-book support.
No Headphone jack? I thought this phone was about simplicity, and they are going to have us navigating Bluetooth pairing menus?

Android phones, or at least Samsung phones have ultra battery saving mode that restricts apps many apps can also be added to this mode, if desired, and turns the screen black and white.

That seems more useful than needing to swap your sim cards and buy another device.

Just a stupid question.

Except e-ink display, what makes "Light" special ? Why not go back to Nokia 3310 (sort of).

Can someone shed a light ?

Thanks
