This is a strange post. Even your analogy annoys me as a base-model BMW is still a car that many people can afford. A Rolex is purely a luxury item that very few people can justify.

If you don't have a subwoofer, you don't have a good system.

Large towers within a slickdealers budget are not going to have the extension of a home theatre subwoofer. When you listen to music, you will be missing parts of the song. If the bass is too loud, then turn it down -- you will still have the extension below 30hz that you're missing from the rest of your speakers.

Hm is the pb 2000 pro for 800 worth it over the rsl 12s , or the hsu vtf2 mk5 at similar price range?

avoid the pb-1000/2000 and go for sb-1000

Sb is sealed, better for music and a flatter base curve. Pb is ported with more on the 20 hz / really low end for movies when there's an explosion.

I have two SB 2000 based on my airspace. You can call them for recommendations on what to get. Ask for a "moderate" output and not IMAX levels of output that is way too loud.

You can always turn your subs down but not up past their design.

Despite getting sealed, I get tons of floor shake for movies still. There is an air space underneath the floor of my setup though.

I'd say $800 for the PB2000 Pro is actually fair market pricing. SVS's regular pricing has their "free" return shipping already built in, so they typically run 20-30% higher than other internet direct competitors. I'd still take the RSL 12 over the PB2000 Pro though, other than the "free" return shipping just in case you need that extra peace of mind.

Get on the wait list for the $450 RSL Speedwoofer 10S then. Unlike the SB it's ported not sealed, so you still get a decent amount of output. Or its new brother, the 10e which is $300 but may entail a longer wait time.

Items selling quick, I would add to cart and at last step of checkout it would say sold out so id have to go back and choose again, but as I type this still one SB-1000 Pro for 399 and four PB-1000 Pro for 499 (blemished) left.
