This is a strange post. Even your analogy annoys me as a base-model BMW is still a car that many people can afford. A Rolex is purely a luxury item that very few people can justify.

If you don't have a subwoofer, you don't have a good system.

Large towers within a slickdealers budget are not going to have the extension of a home theatre subwoofer. When you listen to music, you will be missing parts of the song. If the bass is too loud, then turn it down -- you will still have the extension below 30hz that you're missing from the rest of your speakers.

I've been out of home theater for 15 years. Had a great system with a Hsu sub. I recall at the time SVS was a big name in subwoofers.

How do these stack compared to the RSL subs I see posted here sometimes? Is the RSL a reasonable facsimile for less?
In short, RSL is not great in terms of looks, aesthetics, finish and lacks the nice mobile app features of SVS.
BUT...RSL is cheaper and almost sounds as good for around 30 to40% less money.

SVS sure must get a lot of returns in order to be able to run this sale so often.
I'm not sure they hold sales any more than anyone else, In general.

As you can see the good sales go extremely fast.
People wait for the next sale so likely the same inventory is there for the next.

Most people at this level usually know what they want and are getting/expecting.

If you don't, one great thing with SVS, you can try at no cost to you.
Their CS is hands down one of the best.

I have no doubt most of this stuff is actually brand new---very common practice in the audio industry to pass off excess A-stock as "open box," "refurbished," "renewed," "B-stock," etc. in order to protect the brand image.

Plus SVS enjoys incredible distribution, being sold not just directly from their website but also at Amazon, Crutchfield, and Best Buy. With their regular pricing, they are already making gobs of profit hand over fist. Compared to speaker-company subs sold at those 3 main retailers, they are still the best choice---the popular consumer has no clue that other and TRULY "internet direct" sub specialist brands (which offer better price to performance) like Hsu, Rythmik, PSA, etc. even exist.

The Speedwoofer 12S does have a mobile app, iirc. And those who've had both RSL and comparable level subs (e.g. RSL 10S vs PB1000 v1, or RSL 12S vs PB1000 Pro or even PB2000 Pro) more often than not claim the RSL subs actually have better performance.

SVS's top of the line subs are a different animal, but they are still clobbered by similar priced subs from Rythmik or PSA, though I'll grant you that neither of those two brands can match the pretty cabinetry of those high dollar SVS subs.

Wife (or husband I guess) Approval Factor trumps SPL every time. I have two SB-2000 in Piano Black because anything bigger or a different finish wouldn't have passed the test.

Thinking of getting the satellite or elevation speakers as desktop speakers. Anyone do this or heard of others using these speakers as desktop speakers? I'd pair it with a cheap amp/DAC off Amazon to plug into work laptop. Appreciate the feedback!

I wouldn't. If you don't have a sub, I'd get an ELAC B5.2 or B6.2 currently on sale at Amazon. Much more usable bass, and no ear bleeding Prime tweeter.

Moot point now, but I think the RSL 10S is in the same size ballpark as the SB2000 and with a vented not sealed cabinet, would have given you more kick. Not sure if they are still offered in glossy black as in the early years, but they do have a white option that can have high WAF.

Thanks Zorbat1446. I plan on utilizing a subwoofer as well eventually but not for a few months. I'll check out the ELAC speakers you recommended.

Hm is the pb 2000 pro for 800 worth it over the rsl 12s , or the hsu vtf2 mk5 at similar price range?
Look at audioholics reviews for all three. You can see the exact measurements. Personally I would go for the hsu

Hi folks. I was keeping an eye on sb-1000 due to lack of room for bigger footprint.
The outlet version offers $500 version. I am assumong it is refurbished item? Is it a good deal?
I see sometimes used on FB marketplace for $400

No not refurbished, just sometimes have blemishes.
They have picture(s) of it for you to see it in the description.

The advantage of buying directly from SVS, their outlet products get the same Bill of Rights guarantee as a new one!

Btw if you want HT performance from a small footprint, take a look at their SB3000, very impressive!

What about sb-1000pro?
It actually cost the same $500, and has the same size?
