Process is to simply active the offer; use the card to add $90 to your Mint wallet; $45 credit will appear on your next Amex statement. You can then use the $90 Mint wallet credit the next time you need to pay for a plan. I've done this multiple times before in the summer, but didn't use it until January (when my annual plan was up for renewal) without a problem.

so this is really a $45 off $120, not $45 off $90 if you're only opening one line. i guess if you open 2 new lines, then you can get 2 of the $45 plans for a total of $90.

I'm ok simply activating the service and letting it run out, but I want it there as a backup until I need it. Mint has a 45 day window to activate so this won't work.

To me it's a bit too much hassle for the savings.
had verizon for years, switched to mint and my coverage got significantly better.
recently switched from mint to usmobile, which is verizon based and my coverage got worse again.
will be switching back to mint at the end of this contract.
