Port your main number to Google Voice. Then you can take advantage of every phone deal without losing your main number.

As a counter to this, if you do any amount of texting, don't do this. The google voice app is pretty ass and you can't use RCS with it. Also some apps will not let you use 2FA with it (chatgpt and lots of dating apps). It's def not worth the inconvenience of not having two numbers on your phone (asking google assistant to send a text and it sends from the wrong number) and dealing with google voice

Anyone know how it would work if I have a secondary phone and I DONT want to port a number? Is it as easy as put the physical sim in and it works? They just "give" me a random number or what? Also anyone have any experience with reliability of service
Basically, you get a new number before porting your number to that new number. You must request porting during activation. Their service is Verizon including Verizon's symbol. They are just a reseller of MVNO.

I have a Samsung A54 from Metro, unlocked now and passes the Infimobile and all Verizon mvno carriers as well as others like T-Mo, At&t and their prepaid subs.

I've used Google Voice for this for 10+ years and have been very happy with it to be able to switch and try out new carriers while keeping my number. Unfortunately Google isn't really supporting it anymore and it may be time for me to move on soon. I've recently purchased a new car (Chevy Blazer EV) that doesn't support android auto or apple carplay. Instead it has a built in Google automotive OS and you use your Google account to directly download android apps to the vehicles infotainment system. But Google voice isn't supported for this Google automotive OS for the car, so I can't get texts or make calls through the cars voice system. I have to initiate calls through phone and use Bluetooth connection. It's frustrating that GV isn't supported in a Google product.
GV works the same as it always has and works well. What are you claiming that's not supported?

Google will not release an active number. They also give you 45 days to reclaim a released number. Sounds like there's much more to this story.

I've had the same GV number for close to 10 years and have never had any issues. A lot of members in the phone threads also use GV to take advantage of MVNO deals.
I'm not getting this - are you porting out GV number or using MVNO number to link to GV number, so that MVNO number forwards the calls
Thanks

I'm using the MVNO assigned number to forward to my GV number.

Fwiw, my daughter's been on this since Dec, it's been working flawlessly. We are in an area with excellent signal.

I'm curious if anyone has successfully used this service with a data only device such as in iPad Pro? I have researched user reviews and also emailed their customer service but never got a reply. The imei compatibility check indicates it is not compatible but I'm not sure how reliable it is. TIA

I was able to use my tello number when visiting Japan with a 2nd esim. Will this work the same way if I get basic tello service and use this for data only on a 2nd esim?

Some services can detect VOIP numbers. paypal for example disallows adding google voice

It puts a big smile on my face when people take advantage of companies that try to entice new customers instead of catering to thier existing customers.

Totally agreed and it's indeed frustrating why Google voice is not supported on these Google OS based cars😔. For now I have to use Android auto wireless or wired to use the Google voice dialer but this interface is very small than actual available infotainment screen on my car

Interested in oversea use of Tello with a 2nd sim. What phone do you have? Did text work also?
