what other basic principles on sd are in your handbook, and why? Tia
Not sure if you are trolling, but I will take the bait.

I love SD and have used it since ~2007. I think the community on here is great and very knowledgeable. The company was acquired by Goldman Sachs six years ago for half a billion, so I am sure it does well financially.

My main gripes are related to it putting profits above their mission (saving people $$) and transparency. Examples:
1. Not allowed to post cash back sites (cuts into their referral revenue stream), which sometimes can save 20% or more.
2. Removing posts/links to Amazon products that don't meet a threshold number of sales/seller ratings. This is touted as protective for the community against Chinese shills, but in actuality, it allows them to block out their sponsor's competition. Similarly you don't see many deals from AliExpress/Temu (not sure if they have the same policy on those two sites as well).
3. Sponsored posts (such as this) are rarely labeled as promoted/sponsored content.
4. SD staff posts often have abnormally large numbers of TU relative to comments and true deal "hotness." Any time you see a staff posted deal, look at the ratio of TU to comments and you will see what I mean. I wish there was transparency here -- eg listing who TU'ed/TD'ed a deal.
5. Sometimes posts have shills. Example overzealous shill replies would be "Wow great deal in for X (large unnecessary quantity)" or "Code no longer works" (to cause FOMO) followed by "Code is still working, great deal"

I actually think a lot of their sponsored deals are pretty solid, but just wish that they were more transparent.

Agree with all of these points. It's also extra deceptive that they hide "staff" from their name unless you click on the profile. I miss the old days where SD was price mistakes and actual deals. Not 80% SD sponsored and staff posted Amazon links. Community.Woot also used to be great before Amazon bought it to prevent the same things from happening there.

Ah, non-braided cables. Anyone have these? Are they soft and floppy? (what I want).

Thank you for the heads up, I had no idea.
Counter-Point,

Not sure how any of that changes YOUR(!!!) potential savings. And isn't that the only "point/issue" that matters?
I am no shill. I do not work for SD. Not sure why people come on here looking for someone to be running (tantamount to) an..."online soup-kitchen".
I have bought plenty of UGREEN accessories over the years. Great quality!!! And have never ran into any issues...yet.
Hope I haven't just jinxed myself. In for one btw.

Thanks Staff.

This is essentially a sponsored post. I typically stay away from these deals based on principle alone. Ugreen is heavily promoted by SD staff -- search for prior ugreen deals and see what percent are either posted by staff or have a coupon code to enter (usually means manufacturer sent the coupon code to SD).
Won't dispute that logic, but between Ugreen and the "L" brand ultra cheap stuff that is also often promoted here, Ugreen would be preferable, no doubt.

In the past, Ugreen did take some actions that did not endear them to people, regarding how the company handled certifications, but they have cleaned up their act, and do legitimately stand as a brand on their own…which can't be said of a lot of the brands that sell mostly, if not almost entirely, though Bezosland.

Ugreen can be considered as part of a group that includes Anker, Aukey, and Baseus, among the accessory brands.

As someone who generally ignores the SD-related voting system (or internet voting in general) and relies on my own judgement, #2 is absolutely infuriating, particularly when I see something interesting in my alert summary, only to be met with the "does not meet standards" BS when I open the link.

That serves not only to mask the true situation, but as you note, tacitly favor certain other parties.

A great example of this is when Amazon found religion, flipped the script, and decided that the free product reviews that were part and parcel of its store were now verboten, and banned a number of brands for engaging in that practice. What that effectively did was eliminate Anker's biggest competitors, and open the door for them to raise their prices, as one of, if not the only, recognizable brand on offer, competing against mostly fleeting reseller brands. As a shopper, the choices were now to pay Anker's tax, or take your chances with XXUZY or whatever brand.

It's a situation that has somewhat, but still not fully recovered, even if just due to natural market evolution, and Anker was able to take full advantage of the situation.

That said, the tactics the banned brands engaged in were questionable, if not downright shady, and still occurs, but Amazon looked the other way for so long, and mostly ended up cutting off its nose to spite its face.

I guess what it comes down to is whether you like to read the book yourself, or have someone else read it, and present the sanitized version to you. I know which I prefer.

Slickdeals is about deals period. If it saves you money, it's a deal.
Basically if the manufacturer sent SD a coupon code and they posted it to save us all money, we should on principle say NO?
Posts like this just make no sense logically.
This is the mountain where you take your principled stand on? Seriously? Honestly people need to get off their high horses.

Did they conceal it was a Staffer? NO.
What exactly is the principled stand here about?

I just bought the cables and if anyone else wants to they should.

No. Just buy a cable rated to do that. One that is not rated just for charging.

Goldman Sachs/sd an Amazon would be the same family members owning the same company. Like everything else in the west.
