I have this exact cooler, bought it years ago.

I originally bought some other brand from Sams Club; that one died in less than a year and had beyond awful customer service when it came to getting a refund. I abstained from buying any other cooler but my dad recommended I try the Insignia branded cooler from BB since he's had it for nearly a decade and never once had an issue. I took a leap and yeah these things work flawlessly.

Dad's 5.1cu is still working to this day and my 10.2cu works as well without issue. I would actually recommend the 10.2cu over the 5.1cu just because with the 5.1cu it can be a pain to dig for something deep inside. With the 10.2cu you have space to move things to the left or right rather than up and out to get the stuff down below.

Garage ready means that even if room temperature is freezing cold, the fridge or freezer will continue to chill what is inside. If not Garage ready then the device will be tricked by the cooler outside temperature and will not cool what's inside.

I understand the feature, but I'm still unclear about its usability. If the exterior temperature of the freezer is below the freezing point, is it necessary to chill the contents inside? This is considering that the exterior thermal energy will leak into the freezer unit (in this case, energy leaking out I guess).
The thermostat also adjusts faster to large temperature swings like during the summer when the garage ramps up or down 15 degrees quickly.

And yes it is necessary. Optimal food safe condition is zero or sub zero. 30f is not ideal for long term food storage so you don't want your freezer stopping just because the garage hit freezing temps.

Remember, 32f (0c) is just the freezing temp of water. Once you add in all the extras from food product the freezing point is technically lower than 32f. Microbes and other risks are much better prevented at 0f.

I've had one of these for 3+ years and it works great. Would recommend.

Depends on the ex. Somebody already asked if it could fit half a cow, so I guess if they were a real chonker you might have to do some trimming to make it work.

When these break all you need to do is purchase a start capacitor from Amazon. It fixes every one of them.

Chest freezers generally need manual defrosting. That said mine has been running for over 3 years and it has some frost but not enough that I've bothered to defrost it yet.

Of course the rate of frosting depends on how often you open it, the room it's in, and climate in your area.

Anyone know generally how many cubic feed could store half of a cow?
Half is 400 to 500 pounds. This will not be big enough imo. Probably need a 15ft one...

I disagree. I've put a half a cow in this size freezer with room to spare.

Mine was delivered today at 7:30 am, I ordered on Thursday. Received a courtesy call 30 min before arrival. I chose delivery and installation option which was $29.

Two guys brought freezer into my basement. They first unpacked a new and un-damaged unit outside. I inspected it outside. They brought it down using one flight of stairs and turned it on. Took about 10 min total. Drivers were professional and polite, wished me a good day with a smile.
