In general, freezers do this because warm air enters it when the door is open. When you close it, all that hot air cools very quickly, effectively "shrinks," and causes a pressure imbalance for around 10 seconds. That is why it's hard to open and makes a sucking sound.

This is also explained pretty well in this Technology Connections segment [youtu.be]. I would be pretty floored if this simple chest freezer has some sort of active, gas-pumping, sealing technology. It's an Insignia after all, not a Sub Zero. But hey, maybe I'm wrong.
They also have the 14.0CF size of this freezer for $50 more, if you need a larger one.

I got it for $212 after tax and delivery(free) back in 2018...talk about inflation. Other than that, it works great. No problem so far. The only catch is that you can't close the door and open it right away because there's "gas filling" after the door is closed.

It's acting like it seals the freezer door. You will hear the pump air sound after closing the freezer door. You can't open the freezer door right away once you close it. Wait for around 10 secs to open the freezer door again. I never read the manual, and maybe there's a way to close this functionality

Interesting, I wonder if it pulls a vacuum on the chamber to create a good seal for increased efficiency after closing. Thanks for the info!

Not sure. I can't find any answer on the page or on the FAQ. I don't think it's just me. Well, from the other point of view, yes, it does create a better seal and saves energy.

If you're looking for an upright, Costco has an upright 11CF for $350 in-club, I just snagged one today. Shows $449 on the website, also says it's OOS for my zip.

Edit: it's not garage ready, if that's important to you.

The Costco one is nice because it has drawers which allows the contents to be organized. The drawers do use up space, though, so that the stuff from my 7 cf chest freezer just fit. So less space than the 11 cf would indicate, but definitely more useful. I had a hard time with not knowing what was at the bottom of my 7cf chest freezer; can't imagine how it would be with a 10 cf chest.

I also bought the 5 cubic foot version for of this in 2018. It's been working fine and uses very little electricity. The interior lining is kind of cheap but overall I'd recommend it.

I have a 7cf Insignia chest freezer, which is surprisingly lightweight. A single person can move it, especially with a furniture dolly.

If you want to save on delivery, I think this one could also be a one-person job, especially if you don't mind sliding the cardboard box across the floor once you get home.
