I thought aventage line did not have 24 gbps issue.

Update:
Checking at Yamaha website, this model seems to be affected just like V6A. Higher end A6A and A8A seems to be fine.

Pretty good deal on a great sounding receiver if you can get by the one eyed robot look. Yamaha's tend to have a brighter sound signature which is fantastic for center channel dialog clarity when watching movies.

In for one. 24gbps hdmi 2.1 is not a limitation for my use case and this is a major upgrade over the burnt out HK 235 it's replacing

Have a denon that blew a kef 150 because underpowered? Will this power it easily or do I need a amp attached

Was hoping this code would work on the RX-A4A. I don't like the way the receivers look now (with the big eye), but the older Yamaha I have doesn't support 4K. Hopefully a discount for the A4A will show up soon. Thanks anyway OP!

Which Denon did you have?

If you have the Q150, sensitivity is 86dB (not efficient) and min impedance is 3.7 ohm (8 nominal). Based on these specs alone, I think you need an AVR that retails for well over $1k (or an external amp as you suggested)!

I had a pair of KEF Q300's that I used with my Denon x1600 and they were fine.

The 150s are listed as
sensitivity: 86 dB
impedance: 8 ohms
recommended amplifier power: 10-100 watts.
They don't have much bass response either, did you use a sub with them?

What Denon did you use?
How many channels were you driving?
Were you trying to recreate a rock concert?

The average mid level receiver should be able to drive those just fine.

I have my KEQ Q150's with my Denon S750H (75W) and have never come close to damaging the speakers. I have a powered sub in my setup so maybe that's the difference?

well documented that many manufacturers exaggerate their sensitivity testing results. independent testing shows that 86-87 dB is a pretty normal measurement for many brands. AVRs are also more powerful that they were in the past, so sensitivity results are not nearly as important as they used to be. in principle a high sensitivity speaker does make it easier on your amp, but today those differences are pretty small and sensitivity results should not be a primary decision factor.
