I own the Q990D, and while it's amazing, it's main feature is 120 Hz. The sound quality is basically identical.

BEWARE!! While this gets a lot of good reviews, do your research before you buy and use it immediately looking for issues after your buy. I waited a week to setup. I thought it was great but I felt something is off when the sound went in and out. On close inspection I found out the subwoofer gets disconnected every 15 seconds only to automatically gets reconnected after 10 seconds. It made the bass goes off and comes on which was very annoying. I tried all the troubleshooting methods (update firmware, reset and reconnect manually etc) but nothing helped. I was able to get hold of a customer service rep immediately but I was transferred between multiple departments - each time after talking to each of them for around 20-30 minutes. Finally the rep said he is ordering a replacement subwoofer. After a week I did not get any acknowledgment email stating that a sub was sent. I contacted the customer service to return it. Reading the Samsung website, I now see a lot of reviews stating hardware disconnection issues or annoying sounds coming from one or more of the speakers. Also, I did not find the soundbar worth the price. IMO, if you have a high end TV, the speakers without subwoofer is no better than TV speakers.

I'm not seeing a lot of people say this issue. Maybe interference where you positioned sub and soundbar together? I'm still wondering if I should upgrade from the Samsung 950t because I hate that I can't see the screen on top and cheap velt fabric.

I don't have either, but here is a comparison from Rtings [rtings.com].

The 950T scored well for the test bench used at the time, but it does seem pretty apparent that the 990C is better across the board and includes a room correction feature that should improve the sound based on the acoustics of your space.

In terms of build quality/aesthetics, the 990C is plastic and metal with no fabric and a front-facing display screen.

At the EPP/EDU price, it's probably worth it if you don't need it as an HDMI 2.1 passthrough (limited to 4K/60Hz). Maybe offload the 950T to make back a few bucks.

EDIT: I was wrong. Apparently I got signed out of my EDU account on the app and in Chrome. Signed back in and now I see the the $685 price.
