When putting down a tarp or rain mat, it's not to keep the entire footprint of the tent dry, it's just for UNDER the tent. Not even to the edges, just to keep the bottom floor off direct ground and prevent stick/root pokes and holes.
Clear/sweep the ground flat. Lay out the tarp. Lay out the tent and fold the tarp just under the outer edges of the tent. Set up the tent and the tarp shouldn't be visible.
This way water runs off the tent and into the dirt instead of down the tent onto the tarp and pooling under your body.
Reading the 1-star reviews on the walmart site for the Riverbend model I see comments about the material tearing easily, poor zipper quality, and leaks w/ rain. Good sale price, but think I'll look to pay more for a tent with better construction.

Dumb question……..would this require tarp to put underneath? Would it be favorable or worth doing?

I was comparing the 4 person vs 6 person Ozark trail tent recently. I only really need it for 2-3 people.
I didn't like the 6 person tent is basically screen/mesh without the rainfly on. There's no middle-ground. Also there are no reviews that discuss how water-resistant it is. Which isn't necessarily bad, but I was hesitant.
The 4 person had (mostly) positive reviews on rain-resistant and it's big enough for what I need.
Would this be too big for casual 2 person weekend overnight camping? Want to find something that would fit 6 feet tall people comfortably and wouldn't take too long to set up.
