In the US, people often describe it as soup, with noodles, (like chicken noodle soup) but in Japan, ramen is primarily a noodle dish that is served in soup. That subtle distinction is important because in Japan, there is no expectation that people drink all the broth.

It's not uncommon that one finishes the noodles (men) and toppings (gu), but only takes a few sips of the broth (tsuyu). The idea is that ramen noodles absorb liquid quickly and get soggy, so it's meant to be eaten quickly; since it's not supposed to spend a lot of time in the broth, the broth is seasoned heavily so that it flavors the noodles properly in the short amount after cooking and being consumed. Ramen is certainly not healthy, but the sodium content isn't nearly as bad as it appears on the package if you leave much of the soup rather than consuming it. To clarify, one certainly can drink all the broth, but it's also common not to finish it all.

I think almost everyone accepts that ramen is not good food, and that Nissin is not good ramen. On a food scale, I would consider this on the same level as Cheetos.

and the biggest issue with it is... its not even that good of taste to begin with... waste of daily sodium count

THese are the worst tasting noodles .. period. and they were 10 cent a pack 10 years back and no one wanted it

any asian chinese/indonesia/korean/thai ramen taste much much better with equal or less sodium count

Flavor wise, i suggest people try "Mama noodles" they are in silver packets. Tom yum shrimp flavor. Pretty great instant noodles

Best price I have seen for this flavor online. This is vegetarian, unlike the maruchan version. Hard to find (impossible, actually) at grocery stores in my area.
