So tempted to replace my half rack with the real thing…I only wish it had weight plate and bar storage on the unit itself (for stability and convenience; my current one has both). Anyone know if those can be added with an accessory?
2.5" posts? I thought everything was standardized at 2" or 3". That's from the J Hook specs on the site…
Please do not drop 1,000 pounds on this thing with only 15-gauge steel, because it will be the last thing you do. I would not even drop 1,000 on my Rogue RM3 with 11-gauge steel. Static weight holder is one thing but things get a lot worse when it's being dropped. But in reality who is going to bench or squat 1,000 Lbs should do it in a gym with medical supervision - if they have any brains.
Really wish the deals came with the lat pulldown, feel like it's a must need for me in a home gym to have a lat pulldown option
I haven't used a lat pull in 20 years, but I see the appeal. There are all kinds of pullup progressions you can do instead, with or without wrist straps — jumping, kipping, band assists, etc. IMO lat pulls' main benefit is being able to quickly change angles, but if you're not locked down, you're just going to lift yourself up (or lighten yourself too much). There are plenty of substitutes for an average person.

Lat pulldown is same tension/weight consistently throughout the full range of motion, whereas band assists are most assisting at the peak range of motion (full extension, whether it's a push or a pull) which is the least important part of the exercise. The most important part of the exercise is when your target muscle is stretched at its maximum range of motion.
For example, bench press, the most important range for developing the chest is when the weight is closest to the chest. This is where the band wouldn't even be kicking in too much.
And with a lat pull down, the most important range is at the dead hang transition to moving the weight. And the band is least effective here as well.
Bands are very nuanced, due to their nature of increasing resistance.
All that said, I agree pull ups are superior to cable pull downs for many reasons. So the lat pull downs should really be something to compliment some pull ups (high rep work) or part of pull up progression/development.
