Workout shoes/cross trainers usually have a flat sole, so they provide a somewhat more stable base for heavy lifting. They also usually have a little more padding and support for lateral movement, rather than being designed to roll smoothly from heel to toe like running shoes.

As for running…they're still athletic shoes, not cowboy boots. But anything more than a few minutes on a treadmill probably isn't going to be ideal. Think about trying to run a 5k in a pair of basketball shoes and you get the idea.

If your gym routine includes a wide variety of activities like cardio, strength training, and agility drills, the Nike Air Zoom TR 1 would be a great choice. However, if your focus is on weightlifting or CrossFit, you might find the Nike Metcon or Reebok Nano to be more specialized for those activities.

For walking and running I use Adidas ultra boost but If you're a Nike fan, then you can go for Nike Air Pegasus series

Definitely a look, but what appears to be full length zoom strobel (zoom right under the insole) is a great deal for sub-$50.

I bought these in blue a while back. These are absolutely the softest soled shoes I've ever worn. There is really not much tread on the bottom to speak of, and they aren't very attractive, being that they are pretty much *all* sole. I don't know how they work for actual athletic performance - I just bought them as lifestyle shoes because the color matched a couple of shirts I own 😆

The Ultraboost is a nice walking/lifestyle shoe and it's very comfortable, however, I highly recommend getting a better running shoe.

You're comment triggered some flashbacks to HS basketball and twice a week we had to run 4 miles through the hallways. No one had running shoes, we had basketball shoes and only a few lucky kids had two pair, one for practice and one for games. Somehow they lasted a year however. Yes, these shoes are not for running long distances but are fine for staimaster or stationary bikes or similar cardio workouts, but their main purpose is for the person who is lifting.
