The original commenter is not wrong, Nintendo will eventually shut down the Mario Maker 2 servers. They shut down the Mario Maker (1) servers some time ago, just as they've shut down the Splatoon servers and the servers for every version of Mario Kart prior to MK8. It happens over time, they stop putting money in to keeping servers running that aren't making money on new sales.
That said, Mario Maker 2 stages that you make yourself you'll always have, regardless of whether connectivity is still offered. You can still make new stages after the servers are gone, you just won't be able to share them in the community.

Why do you say that? Did I miss something? Why would they shut down the servers?

My 9yo son absolutely loves this game and the complexity is surprising. I feel like this game is a hidden gem. Teaches kids a lot of new concepts and is basically helping them learn a visual programming language. Highly recommend this for kids ages 9-13+.
