This is the same deal I stocked up on the last time it came around. Decent deal for Euro Mobil One.

Ah yes the days of 11-12 bucks net cost for the 5qt jugs appear to be long gone. At least the sale price of the jugs is more or less the same as they were 5-6 years ago, just no rebate. Frown

Also 5w-40 at the same price: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-.../389304923

I ordered a few days ago and it just arrived. I can confirm that it has API SP standard listed on the bottle. This is not reflected on the Walmart product page, and I didn't even see it reflected on Mobil's website.

Thanks for this. We don't see a lot of discounts on Euro oils, so this is always welcome. Not LL-01 certified because no one wants to pay for the approval anymore but perfectly good for my old BMW.

How old? I'm looking into a 2001 525i soon and researching what oil to use.

Thanks for this. I prefer the 5w-40 since it's so damn hot during the summer.

Does this mean I can use this on my US spec Honda?

I could be wrong, but I think that's the same M54B25 engine as in my 2001 325i. These are great engines that can last a very long time if well cared for, and will tolerate a variety of oils. This Mobil 1 is just fine, in my opinion. Castrol's Edge Euro formula in 5W-40 is also good, though some people run 5W-30. Any high-quality synthetic 0W-40 or 5W-40 is probably okay, honestly, if you change every 5K or less, but I prefer to stick to Euro-specific formulas. BMW's LL-01 is the official oil specification but it's an old spec and probably doesn't offer anything above and beyond the current generation of synthetics, and it isn't like we have factory warranties anymore.

I got the 325i about five years ago and immediately replaced much of the cooling system, as the plastic bits can get sketchy with age and overheating these engines is the main no-no to worry about. My advice would be to get all the service history and records you can, and to replace the coolant overflow bottle, radiator hoses, thermostat and housing, water pump, and coolant temp sensor, at least, if you aren't sure if they've ever been done. I also changed the oil, rear differential, and transmission fluid (manual - it shifted like crap initially but Redline MTL totally changed it), and the car has continued to run great with nearly 200k on the clock.
