My advice it to stick to slower speeds. The Aviar and Roc3 on sale are a putter/mid range duo that's fine for a beginner. Most people try too quickly to jump into distance drivers and I don't think it has much long term benefit. Learn how to properly drive a mid range for upper 200 feet before getting to fairway and ultimately distance driver, IMHO. Most people start with DX plastic, but just so you know it is not durable - a couple good hits to a tree or landing on concrete will significantly affect their flight. See if you like the sport, then spend a little more on Star or Champion plastic.
Other advice: try to stick with colored discs that are easier to spot in weeds. I like hot pink, red, and bright blues. Whites and yellows (even orange) can be harder to spot.

All the "DX" discs are pretty good starter discs...

My minimum recommendation:
The Aviar is a putter
The Roc is a midrange
The Leopard is a driver (a 6 speed "fairway" driver

also pretty good beginner discs (especially in this plastic)
The Wraith is a distance driver (11 speed)
The dragon is a little weird, not sure the speed, but they float -- good if there's some water holes at your local course.

These days people tend to use mostly "premium plastic" versions of discs for their longevity, but the Aviar especially, and also the Roc, are still very commonly carried in the "base" (DX) plastic by even pros.

The first 3:Aviar/Roc/Leopard would make a very good starter set. Especially for the drivers, the lighter weights will probably be a little easier for a beginner.

You can find local course with the UDisc app:
https://udisc.com/
or at either
https://www.discgolfscene.com/
or the not-as-popular-as-it-used-to-be:
https://www.dgcoursereview.com/

discgolfscene will also have a lot of info about local leagues and upcoming events, the vast majority of which are open and welcoming to all skill levels. There's also a ton of informational videos on YouTube about form and improving, etc.

Really great, affordable, lifetime sport, and a good reason to get some sun shining on your body.

As a beginner, you will be good with just an Aviar (putter), Roc (midrange) and Leopard (fairway). No need for a distance driver as there won't be much/any benefit compared to the difficulty of using it.

The DX Aviar, Roc and Leopard are my kids goto disc as beginners, so I picked up some extras for when they put them in the water.

Anything else worth considering for a weekend player?

Typo on their site - it's a Star Wraith and not Wrath haha (somehow that still works though). I've had the same Wraith disc (yellow in that pic) for the last 13 years now and it's my main driver. Will probably be until I lose it Smilie

The Dragon floats and is very understable making it a solid choice for kids/beginners.

Unrelated to this deal - check out Dino discs for the kids or slower throwers. They're incredibly fun and go far on the course

Thanks OP. Snagged 4 discs when I actually don't need anything…hard to walk away from good prices though and hoping to get my kids into it. Never hurts to have cheap discs they can lose.

Would anyone be willing / is it possible to "build" a complete set for a total beginner? I've always been intrigued by disc golf, but I can't even toss a toy frisbee back and forth with any consistency.
