Other advice: try to stick with colored discs that are easier to spot in weeds. I like hot pink, red, and bright blues. Whites and yellows (even orange) can be harder to spot.
My minimum recommendation:
The Aviar is a putter
The Roc is a midrange
The Leopard is a driver (a 6 speed "fairway" driver
also pretty good beginner discs (especially in this plastic)
The Wraith is a distance driver (11 speed)
The dragon is a little weird, not sure the speed, but they float -- good if there's some water holes at your local course.
These days people tend to use mostly "premium plastic" versions of discs for their longevity, but the Aviar especially, and also the Roc, are still very commonly carried in the "base" (DX) plastic by even pros.
The first 3:Aviar/Roc/Leopard would make a very good starter set. Especially for the drivers, the lighter weights will probably be a little easier for a beginner.
You can find local course with the UDisc app:
https://udisc.com/
or at either
https://www.discgolfsce
or the not-as-popular-as-it-used-to-be:
https://www.dgcourserev
discgolfscene will also have a lot of info about local leagues and upcoming events, the vast majority of which are open and welcoming to all skill levels. There's also a ton of informational videos on YouTube about form and improving, etc.
Really great, affordable, lifetime sport, and a good reason to get some sun shining on your body.
