$4500 new.

Can someone tell me if this was/is worth that original price, and how the actual deal compares?

I'm used to buying the X70 or XX70 line of cards (i.e., this gen it's 4070), and those are typically 1k+ when new as a pre-built, or sub 1K when on deep sale.

This price is a wowzers high to me, so I'd appreciate some help understanding the higher tier computers & their pricing.

I would wait for Intel to sort their i9-13900k crashing during games issues before spending this kind of money. Also, for almost $3k, I would think they'd throw in at least a 2tb SSD before any HDD drives.

Lastly, that ddr-5 is quite slow.

Seems like a good deal at first glance, but if one assumes $1600 for the RTX 4090 and $400 for the i9-13900KF, then that means you're paying $800 for the RAM, motherboard, case, and PSU, which isn't as spectacular as one might think.

+ 2TB HDD, 1 TB PCIe SSD

which with storage prices isn't dirt cheap any longer

Buying top tier hardware is almost always a losing game, even when on sale.

The retail cost is laughable.

If this will make you money as a content creator or engineer then maybe it's not such a big waste, but other than that you're just setting your money on fire.

I thought 4090 destroys mac in gpu related tasks.

It does, for gaming and 99% of GPU workloads. The only time the M max GPUs are better are for specially coded workloads, usually for apps that dont even have Windows versions.

Oh okay. I had done some research on pc (4090) vs high end macs for videoediting and it was pretty agreed on that you want to go for pc with 4090 if you do anything graphics related (except for niche cases like the one you mentioned).

Once 5090 comes out later this year, I wonder how much more of a beast it will be. Perhaps it would be safe to assume a 20% performance increase over 4090?

For reference, I built a water cooled PC with 13900k, 4090, 1200w PSU, 32 GB ram and 2 GB nvme. With many slick deals combined and sales it still cost me over $4k.

It seems you also get a free game along with this purchase. The game is set to release this August and is currently the most wishlisted game on steam

1390kf is a fatally manufactured piece of garbage that Intel won't be able to fix.
