LPDDR. Remember you can NOT upgrade the RAM. So until LPCAMM2 becomes more mainstream I would __maybe__ skip it?
Granted only you can judge this.

40% should be fine with only 16GB of RAM for another 2-3 years but they keep adding more and more stuff to the internet ??
Once you run out of RAM, even a 3k fast PC crawls.
MS behind the scenes are also uploading your files to their cloud, so more resource's and more tracking. Already over 700 companies spying on us for the Gov't.
Just watched Switch to Linux or Switched to Linux on YT about this. Thinking of testing Linux Mint on old 8th Gen ? Have 12 Gen laptop now with Windows 11 Pro and thinking of PopOS or Debian 12.6. but I'll probably wuss out until early 2026 on that one.

This seems like a great price though.

Always check CPU-Monkey and NanoReview.net for CPU comparisons. It's not everything but helps. Nanoreview.net look to see if it might have two 2080 NVMe slots or one or maybe different types.

Notebookcheck.net. If they review your actual model, it's a Gold mine of info with a possible picture of it taken apart and you'll see the inside where things go.
I'm confused from where the 1199 original price comes. Website says $749 original price.

Looks like the offer is live again at $650. I got the 10% off coupon and have the $105 CB Amex offer, plus there is a 15% CB today - which will make this about $400 before taxes. Seems like a great deal.

How is the battery life on this? Would it last all day for a college kid?

Edit: Just placed my order.
That's what I did too, when it was posted because I thought it was obvious. Hopefully it's worth it. I needed cheap power, a large screen and good battery life. I wish I could afford something more expensive, but I cannot right now.

I am getting it for my nephew starting college. Hoping this will have good battery life to last all day at college, and sturdy enough construction to last the 4 years. Fun fact, same laptop (Dell Inspiron 16 Plus but with a 11th Gen i7) is one of the 'recommended' laptops and available thru the Uni's student "concession" store for a steeply discounted price of $1449 - gotta love how they rip off kids in college.

My order shipped on Monday and got the "You recently used your Amex Offer: Dell.com" email confirmation. The 15% CB is still not showing, will probably have to raise a ticket. If I get all the expected CBs and rewards, my net price, incl taxes, will be $404. Sweet deal.

Got mine yesterday. Pretty satisfied with it. Good build quality, feels substantial when opening and closing the lid. Doesn't flex when lifting with one hand with the lid open. Screen is excellent, big and bright, love it.

Stress tested by running Prime95 on all cores for a couple of hours, no issues. Fan noise was a tad high at full performance, and laptop was warm on the bottom.

Testing the battery life right now. With screen on at 50% brightness and simple browsing it lost about 5% charge in one hour. Playing a 4K video with sound continuously on a loop, it lost about 11% charge in 1 hour. Currently 4 hours in with mixed use and it has 75% charge left (says 17hr life left 😁). But it looks like one can easily expect about 8 hours of battery life.

Overall, quite happy with the purchase. Good fit for a college going kid.

If I had to pick, I wish that the keypad had a number pad - there is so much empty space on both sides.

And a touchscreen would have been nice, but I think the higher resolution screen is more useful for college work.

I got mine today as well. All of what you said is true with mine as well. I wish it was a little lighter but I guess that is expected of a 16 in laptop. I still need to do more testings but so far I am happy with it. Love the screen.

I completely agree, I also just wanted a numpad, but do not need the touchscreen...after all rewards this came out to slightly under $400 including tax and it does everything I need it to do fast, so I am happy enough for now.
