gimped low power 4070. Watt is set at TDP of 115 watts.
An older HP thread had a link to a HP spreadsheet which model has what TDP graphic card, and for the model (I think it was a Victus too) it was the highest TDP. Sorry I can't look up the details now, but it might be worth a search.

I bought this last year from Costco (with Intel cpu) and the 4070 performs at top 10th percentile.
Yes, you're correct. This has among the better performing 4070s.

oh wow, how's the condition? It was $1100 last night but today they bumped up the excellent to $1230. $70 discount for open box is lame.

how do you like it? I ordered the Alienware M16 R2 RTX4070 for $1300 but I think this would be better. Way more portable at nearly half the weight. I'm guessing only 10-20% slower. It's for a 12yo, he won't notice that.

my only concern is I hear it gets very hot. can you confirm if that's a problem? also, does the usb4 port work for data for you? lots of complaints about that. finally, how's the stability of it?

I bought a 2021 ROG13 and it's very unstable. Crashes every few hours and half the time, the AC adaptor doesn't work at all. It's also very loud even in silent mode.
It is pristine. Just sold without box, the unit itself is flawless. Checked warranty with Asus and it expires May 2025.

I have had issues so far with slow transfer speeds on USB, but haven't had a chance to troubleshoot yet. May be a driver issue with AMD.

It does get warm, but all gaming laptops do. The aluminum chassis actually acts as part of the heat sink tho, so I am pretty sure it's dissipating the heat well.

It is very light and portable. I've learned to value portability after years of lugging around heavy devices. I really like it.

There may be better performing gaming laptops out there, but I think the G14 is good compromise overall. Build quality is great, OLED screen with VRR gets plenty bright, great HDR. Only complaint is the USB data speeds, I need to figure that out… I'm sure there is a fix.

Haven't had a single crash yet. Seems very stable.

I returned my M16 R2. The laptop gets super hot and the CPU temperature goes above 100 degrees. The performance is good but the laptop has bad thermals. You would need to adjust the CPU temperature manually if you want to keep this laptop in the long run.

It feels standard, nothing special. It'll satisfy your screen wobble fetish though. Would be better if the display was brighter/nicer.

Yep, 100w (115 with boost) 4070 isn't gonna knock a 90w 4060 out of the park.
I don't know where you're drawing these random inferences from, the 4060 and 4070 both are set to max out at 115W and anything above that is mostly useless/unutilizable. So, the 4070 in this would actually perform similarly to a 140W 4070, and in no way is a 90W 4060 going to outrun this.

I bought the one last night for 1k but cancelled because they chose to drop it by 100 a day later, and to make it worse acer won't ship to alaska from eBay so I can't get one of their refurbished.

I recently bought the Acer Predator Helios 16 for about $150 more with almost the same specs except it's got the i7-13700HX and 1TB SSD. Is this HP a better deal since I'm still within the return window.

I didn't say the 4060 is going to outrun it... I said the 4070 isn't going knock it out of the park. Base hit maybe, or deep outfield. The big advantage the 4070 will have over a 4060 at the same power spec is more CUDA cores and more Tensor cores for DLSS and ray tracing. Most real-world benches have a 4070 beating the 4060 between about 5-15%, depending on the game. I agree that the 4xxx series mobile cards won't sustainably go over 100w unless you're going with a higher-end laptop with a 4080 or 4090. Being that in quite a few cases the increased cost % of a 4070 laptop isn't in line with the performance % uplift, often most people will be better off with a 4060 and saving a few bucks for RAM upgrades (assuming it's not soldered), SSD upgrade, etc. The bottom line is that you'll get a few more frames in some games but the overall effect will be better 1% lows and average FPS.
