It's a spot that cats can scratch and claw and ruin your sub. Same with kids, poke, poke, broke! 😂

No audio reason, just a fragility reason.

I know ELAC makes some good stuff, but how do these subs compare to something like SVS.

Someone who's knowledgeable about budget subs please chime in. How are these in value for the money compared to other options? Are these in the sweet spot of "bang for the buck" for someone who likes good sound but is on a limited budget, or are there better options? And what about the concerns about the durability of the amps or app support?

Cats or kids? There aren't really acoustic differences between front and down.
This is why my PB16 has a massive metal grate with it. That I don't need.

The ..10 Elacs have a history of not hitting 20 hz, which makes them pointless as subs. These might, but I dunno. Would have to see measurements. The only one I'd consider is the 12", and for the money, I'd get a Klipsch RP sub on sale.

If you need a sub for music - go for Rythmik, you will not regret it. No app, though. I compared Rythmik L12 with SVS SB-1000 Pro and returned SVS. But having an app is really convenient.
SVS is really good, but Rythmik is even better for almost the same money.

Both properly implemented SVS would be better but they cost more also.
Now whether it is worth the extra cost is something no one can answer.

If you're on a budget this is a decent price especially the refurbs.
Another one to consider are the speedwoofers.

supermanrob, you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about audio components. Do you mind if I send you a PM?

That's impossible to answer for someone else, everyone defines "bang for the buck" differently.

After saying that, another one you could look at are speedwoofers, they are budget conscious also.

10" refurb could be great for a simple 2.1 setup where you don't have room eq through an AVR.

Not sure i'd bother with the other options or if you've already got a good avr doing the room work.

Yeah, that's the kind of analysis I was looking for, especially because of cost difference

Of course... the vast majority of movies and even more so for music is above 20hz

....and this is coming from someone that has four 18 inch subwoofers and 8,000 watts RMS.

Heck... my 'full range' towers each have 2 ten inch woofers.

Don't worry about 20hz at this price point... to do that well you are spending many times this cost.

You must truly love subsonics. My one 16" way outstrips 110db at 20hz and shakes the building with its subsonics.

There's plenty of information at 20 hz in music. I experimented with the cutoff on my svs at various frequencies, and there is a difference between a 20 and 30 hz cutoff with many tracks across many genres. A huge difference 20hz vs 40hz. Even more so with action movies. The lowest key on a piano is ~27.5hz. I think hitting a useful volume at 20hz is important, at least in the mid-80 db range, otherwise a sub isn't worth buying.

As for price, how much as that cheapest klipsch RP? 400 or so? Better than 300+ on this 12" that's far weaker.

Obscure comparison but I have an older Klipsch RPW-12. Would the 10" refurbished be an upgrade or more of lateral move?
