Nespresso is different from a regular espresso machine because they're specific pods carefully designed by Nespresso to achieve a certain flavor profile (and they're very good). A google search will show that the ideal pressure for brewing a shot of espresso is between 7-11 bar, however this is a very subjective topic and why espresso/coffee is so fun and versatile. Also having a 20bar machine doesn't mean you'll always be brewing at 20 bars of pressure. I just means the pump is capable of producing that amount of pressure. You can adjust with grind size and tamp pressure to play around with extraction to find what you like. There's really no right way to brew espresso, only the way you like it.

Figured I'd go through the reviews at Best buy since there's a lot of speculation on here. So it seems like there were some faulty units out of the box which people could have just returned but left one star reviews anyway. And then there's some other reviews that seem mostly like user error. And then there's an overwhelming majority of excellent reviews for the unit. including one that says you can use many styles of coffee, I can't speak to the truth of that you can buy espresso ground if buying a $200 grinder is a deal breaker for you. another customer compares it to his much more expensive breville machine and says it's just as good. also another customer says that he is drinking coffee daily of all types for basically his entire life and he finds this unit to produce a great quality brew.

personally I don't mind taking a chance for 30 bucks.

they even throw in two months of a cooking streaming service for free lol.

Are you suggesting 20 bars is a lot of pressure or a little pressure?

To anyone buying this, adjust your expectations. Also note that you need a special grinder to get good results from any espresso machine. A cheap blade grinder won't work, you need a good burr grinder that goes fine enough. Most of these are $200+.

I just want people to have realistic expectations and not be disappointed!
The OXO conical burr grinder is pretty solid for $100 and is occasionally on sale for $60.

20bars is 300psi... Little excessive for espresso.
So not good to buy?

A quick google and reading reviews, many of them state it does not grind find enough for espresso. You will see many conical burr grinders that claim to grind fine enough for espresso, but that is simply not the case. Trust me, I tried to get good espresso with a Baratza Encore which is one of the best mid-range grinders. I ended up getting the DF64 for espresso, total game changer. Night and day difference between the grind quality and consistency. I'm speaking from experience!

I bought one-- kinda nervous whether it will last but this will be my first espresso machine. What kind of coffee should I buy for this?

eff it, in for 1. if my wife only makes 4 lattes before it breaks, it'll still be cheaper than her daily starbucks sugar drink addiction.

Prime day is coming. There's a 99% chance the better hand grinders will go on sale (Timemore ESP, 1Zpresso, etc.) I'm guessing for under $100.

And even with hand grinders one has to be sure they are specifically for espresso. I would, without hesitation, pay more for a hand grinder than the actual machine if I were beginning with espresso. I also have the Encore (none ESP). You are right, It's not doing an espresso grind. Period. Not a surprise since it's not made for it.

Time, dose, and grind size are 89.665% of home espresso with cheaper machines, and it can be shockingly good.

The coffee out of this will taste worse than your moka pot

I agree with you on everything! I honestly forgot about hand grinders, I would also highly recommend a good hand grinder vs a cheaper non-espresso capable burr grinder.
