Nespresso is different from a regular espresso machine because they're specific pods carefully designed by Nespresso to achieve a certain flavor profile (and they're very good). A google search will show that the ideal pressure for brewing a shot of espresso is between 7-11 bar, however this is a very subjective topic and why espresso/coffee is so fun and versatile. Also having a 20bar machine doesn't mean you'll always be brewing at 20 bars of pressure. I just means the pump is capable of producing that amount of pressure. You can adjust with grind size and tamp pressure to play around with extraction to find what you like. There's really no right way to brew espresso, only the way you like it.

Figured I'd go through the reviews at Best buy since there's a lot of speculation on here. So it seems like there were some faulty units out of the box which people could have just returned but left one star reviews anyway. And then there's some other reviews that seem mostly like user error. And then there's an overwhelming majority of excellent reviews for the unit. including one that says you can use many styles of coffee, I can't speak to the truth of that you can buy espresso ground if buying a $200 grinder is a deal breaker for you. another customer compares it to his much more expensive breville machine and says it's just as good. also another customer says that he is drinking coffee daily of all types for basically his entire life and he finds this unit to produce a great quality brew.

personally I don't mind taking a chance for 30 bucks.

they even throw in two months of a cooking streaming service for free lol.

Are you suggesting 20 bars is a lot of pressure or a little pressure?

Noob question: can I use a grinder to fine grind regular ground coffee? I don't want to buy different coffee when I already have regular ground coffee. Thanks.
Yes, if you have a grinder capable of grinding the coffee fine enough. However, said grinder can be expensive. Expensive enough that buying a bag of whole bean coffee is a drop in the bucket, and very worthwhile because it dramatically affects the quality of the espresso shot.

I'm planning to buy
Please advise
I have a $500+ Breville Barista Express and I consider it so so so what do you think a $100 or so machine is going to be like? This is a pretty commonsense thing to figure out. If a $100 or so machine could actually be good Breville and the other companies would be out of business. LOL

These are not going to make great espresso especially with light - medium roast beans, but boy is 30 bucks is really really cheap, considering Delonghi goes for about 80 bucks on sale for their most basic espresso machines, that also doesn't do very well with any roasts other than dark-medium dark.

Aesthetics of an E61 machine aside, people pay a lot of money for these machines to give you very controllable stable consistent temperature, and controllable stable consistent pressure, which there is no way a 30 bucks machine can offer. But then again, people are also paying upward 1-3k for one of those machines that give very very good consistency, so it's comparing apple to apple made of gold. Your cheapest entry level espresso machine that is known for having good enough consistency is Bambino which cost 10 times what this 30 bucks machine cost.

And to be fair, if this is the price range being considered for a machine, we also are not going to be talking about getting freshly roasted beans shipped to your home, and mostly just gonna brew huge can of Folger ground coffee or those 32- 64 pound bags of Lavazza or Starbucks dark-mediaum dark beans that was roasted 6 months ago, to be used with a pressurized basket. And in that case, this machine will probably still make something that you can turn into fairly drinkable latte

The OXO conical burr grinder is pretty solid for $100 and is occasionally on sale for $60.
Solid for filter coffee maybe, but espresso is a different beast altogether.

Then don't buy. I don't see people who bought a Breville toaster oven going into cheap toaster oven threads to proclaim how only the Breville can cook food properly. The common sense part is that this is $30, and you spent $500 plus.

Why the hell would I buy this for myself if I have a Breville Barista Espresso, do you have no commonsense? It would be a good cheap gift for someone but if you think this thing is even remotely good you are delusional.

lot of b-hurt people in here who paid a lot of money for their espresso machines. lololol. At $30, this is perfect for "giving it the good old college try" to see if you / spouse / gift recipient will make your/their own espressos and lattes at home vs spending $8/day at starbucks. that's why I'm in for 1 - if my wife likes homemade lattes, i'll get her a nicer automatic machine (if need be) for BF/Xmas.

The thing about $30 for this machine is this - if I get 30 expresso pours from it before it breaks - I'm overjoyed! If I get 15 - I'm OK with it. If I get 10 - no harm done. LOL

But do you think it's a POS? Hard to tell from your comment,

Ha... Not sure if you're serious nod. But yes, honestly, it strikes me as a POS. $30? I ask myself, how a machine like this sold for $30 could have any meaningful level of quality? Sure, the original or going price appears to be ~$120. But still, even $120 makes me wonder. I wonder about how much plastic is in it. How much metal. I wonder if there's any stainless steel in it? And if so, is it low grade stainless? Are there plastic/vinyl/rubber/metal parts that are going to leach out sh*t chemicals in to the coffee over the years? So (1) is it going to last, or be a reliability nightmare... and (2) is it going to load the beverages with a bunch of chemical sh*t?

I guess I'd rather wait, and save for something like a ~$550 LatteGo 3200 or similar when it goes on sale on Black Friday. I've debated for the past couple of years, and might go for it this year. To be fair, that's also a LOT of money. I'm very lucky in that I could buy one of these and it wouldn't have any meaningful impact on us financially (sure, $600 at 6% over 10 years = ~$1,074). There's the opportunity cost to consider. But I wouldn't think twice. Haven't bought one yet because it's not really a necessity at all. Last year bought an EcoFlow Delta 2 Max, for example. Seemed more "practical" (although still a luxury, having two Honda generators already). Figured I'd push the coffee machine to this year. A bit of delayed gratification.

I tend to prefer buying more expensive but better appliances. Bosch jigsaw, made in Switzerland. Rowenta iron, made in Germany. BlendTec Designer 725, made in USA (yeah baby!) with an 8 year warranty. Dyson "Ball" upright, 5 year warranty. Sure they're more expensive up front, but they last longer and tend to perform better during those years. You get what you pay for. And, for example, in the case of the Bosch jigsaw --> parts availability is fantastic! I replaced the power switch on it after 8 or 10 years. Part was easily available, easy to replace --> back in business!

Apologies for the essay. Ended up adding some context and more.

Something of interest on this post brought you to this thread.

Pragmatic - we've never owned an espresso machine and certainly would never consider paying $500+. At $30 we've entered the market, we enjoy the best coffee we've ever made at home, and are now consumers. Without access at this price point we would never have had the opportunity we have now - the possibility to become espresso snobs.

Bought one 8wks ago, bought another today for work, because why not
