Phone lags and stutters. Due to Samsung bloatware and double apps. Motorola stylus is better choice
Flash factory XAA firmware once the phone unlocked and it should run flawlessly

Seems like its a roll of the dice with the A54 phones since they're using samsungs CPU's .

CPU manufacturing isn't perfect, there are always little defects and some are better than expected, nerds call it the "silicon lottery"

seems like the oppposite with this phone.

I had the A54 for less than 1 week before I ended up selling it because of its stutter/laggy performance. Some haven't had any issues.

Its a roll of the dice I prefer not to take.

It's a combination of bloat on the ROM and using the right system settings. I cross flashed the MetroPCS A54 to the U1 build (not entirely necessary), turned off RAM Plus, and removed anything extra I could without ADB. I'd say that fixed the lag for me and the phone's performance was then similar to the Pixel 6a.

The average users probably aren't going to go through all that trouble to get a phone in a snappy usable state.

even then, i'm reading too many posts about how it lags or doesn't lag, which leads me to think its the samsung SOC silicon lottery right now. I heard the A55 fixed the issue with a newer designed SOC but the A55 hasn't/isn't arrived in the USA

My performance is great, but I tweaked it out before it's first use and don't play games or do other processor-intensive stuff. Here is my tweaking process for the a54 to improve battery life and performance:
- Set display timeout down to 2 min, but turn on keep on when viewing (for battery life)
- Upgraded to OneUI 6.1 and most recent updates (for security and performance)
- Uninstalled a ton of stuff/bloatware
- Disabled a bunch of stuff I couldn't uninstall (takes care of your double apps problem)
- Removed permissions and cleared storage from stuff I couldn't disable (like Device Pulse)
- Forbade a bunch of apps from using mobile data (like Device Pulse, to reduce bandwidth use)
- Turned display down to 60Hz (for performance/battery)
- Shut off RAM Plus (for performance)
- Turned on developer mode
- Set Window, Animator, and Transition Animation Scale to .5x (for performance)
- Turned on auto optimization and auto restart at 3AM every saturday (for performance)
- Turned on power saving and maximum battery protection (for battery life)
- Turned off fast charging (for battery life)
- Turned on power saving mode (for battery life)
- Turned on data saver (You probably don't need this on Total's unlimited plan)
- In intellegent wifi, turn off wifi automatically (save battery)
- In intellegent wifi, turn off switch to mobile data (save cellular bandwidth)
- Set background to solid black (conserve battery life)
- Set lock screen to dynamic cats (because I like cats more than battery life)
- Set Camera and Chrome to save downloads and photos to SD card by default
- Tweaked out UI and icons the way I wanted it.
- Installed netmonitor (required for next step)
- Changed the preferred network type in netmonitor from "NG/LTE/GSM/WCDMA" to "LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM/WCDMA". This disables 5G, leaving you with 4G and LTE, conserving battery life. OneUI 6.1 does not have a settings option to turn off 5G, so I needed netmonitor to do it.
- I also use a device called Chargie (google it if interested) that limits the maximum charge, and don't charge it above 70% unless I'm going on a long road trip or will really need it, and won't charge it at all if it gets too hot. (for battery life)
- I use a slow 15W charger (for battery life)

Now, you might not want to do all of that, and I don't think it was really necessary to get adequate performance, but I did it and am very happy with the phone's performance.

I plan on using this phone until security updates sunset, so I care about battery durability a lot.

What are the specs on THIS SPECIFIC version of the A54?

Do you need 2 months of service or just 1 month plus 1 of waiting to unlock?

TIA

did flash after unlock or before could effect the remote unlocking?

One person mentioned failed flashing if update to latest firmware

Stylus only gets 1 OS upgrade and 3 Year Security while Samsung still offering 4 OS and 5 year Security Patches this will get up to Android 17.
Mid range processor won't keep up in 2 years or so.

A few details that weren't mentioned in this thread or possibly in the longer older thread.

1) Total bumped up the requirement today to needing the $65 plan to get the phone for free.

2) the second line is $30, so $95 for 2 lines

3) I'm in Texas and it still charged an additional $46 total for taxes for both phones. Metro doesn't do this and I feel like tax shouldn't be charged here the price of the phone is zeroed out.

4) Order total for 2 a54 phones was $141 with the free 2 day shipping.

It is a good deal but Im not sure how slick it is for $141 for two of last years midrange phones if they aren't going to be the daily drivers. Selling one to recoup the cost will definitely help to make it slick.
Do we need two GV numbers or only one GV number to order two phones?

I love tinkering, but if i have to do even half of that to make the phone usable, i'm throwing it away.

Do go to moto forums or reddit and see the complains folks have. Also others have pointed out os update policy, not only the policy is bad it is the delay in releasing os updates. By the time os update comes it is old and outdated.
