Yeah local sales tax on $279 MSRP. Straight Talk website didn't charge me local sales tax on Free Moto G Power 5G 2024 which has $149 MSRP was weird.

There's a 2 month old a55 thread from back when the phone was $50 + service + tax. Quite a few in that thread mention that their phones were automatically unlocked after the 60th day, i.e. nothing had to be done on their end even if only paying for 1 month.

its $65+Tax @ $279 MSRP A54 phone discount doesn't work on $55 plan and no autopay discount on first month service.

second plan is discounted to $30 if order second phone $95+Tax total was $134 for me. Can sell one of them once unlocked for $134 and keep 1 free. SmartphonesPlus offered $96 locked to other carrier and $136 sim unlocked.
