The surge protection is probably 0 at this point. It goes down over time.

Bought 3 of these recently after 2 battery backups died (and the battery backup wasn't really needed). These are nice, but I've found some of the outlets are still spaced too closely together for certain types of plugs (if you have a wall wart, even if you use the side-plugs, the height of the wallwart will interfere with the 2 AC plugs in front of it. Not the case with all, but I have 2 wall plugs that interfere)

With that said, all have been working great, no issues. There are 2 versions and all I can tell from the difference are the coax and phone protectors on the end.. I have both versions and prefer the "new" version without, since these aren't really useful to me.

It can be wall-mounted, but the slot for screws is a bit too small for any I had, so you might need to use nails. The dark plastic piece at the bottom of the surge protector does come off easily if you want to remove it.

found this on the Belkin website:

The Protected light indicates that your surge protector is functioning correctly and is providing protection to the devices you have connected to it.

This light should remain ON as long as the surge protector is plugged into an outlet and is turned ON. If this light goes out at any time, it means that your surge protector has served its purpose on protecting your equipment against damaging voltage fluctuations, surges, or spikes. If this happens, your surge protector should be replaced.

1. If the protected indicator light is OFF, it may still function as a power tap but will no longer provide surge protection. This can lead to damage of your equipment once your surge protector encounters another power surge.

So if you have issues with wall warts, you can buy shorty extensions from monoprice.

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=5297

I always keep a dozen or so shortys handy just for wall warts that don't want to play nice with either an outlet or power strip. I use them ALL THE TIME.

I have some of these and they're super useful!
I just find it silly that this surge protector seemed to have the 6 side-plugs so that the wallwarts wouldn't overlap and cover outlets (and it doesn't for side-to-side plugs, but the gap between the side plugs and the main set of plugs are just too close).
The shorty extensions are awesome, but you shouldn't need to use them if they designed this one better

As others have mentioned, these lose surge suppression over time. So if you've got one stuffed behind your entertainment center, might be time to refresh.

A lot of power strip deals this week, wish it were easier to rank them by value or quality without spending a lot of time researching.

Would this be indicated by the 'protected' light going off, or is this just a general knowledge thing that the surge protector doesn't indicate?

The protection light usually will only go off if there has been a surge that it stopped. It will not indicate the lower performance over time. General recommendation is to replace every 5 years or so
