Google assistant has become so completely garbage for me. Part of me assumes they just stopped caring about assistant and started focusing only on their new AI product.
Also at Target, Kohls, and other retailers for the same price. This sale price happens regularly enough I'd never consider buying it for more than $50
Hers trying to say

Hold off until their AI update, not worth this price as it is.

I am also not saying buy it after the AI update, AI costs a lot of money to run and voice assistants were already a money loser.

I think there will be a pretty steep monthly fee to keep these going.

I really hope Google releases a 3rd Gen Nest Hub 7 inch. The 2nd gen is getting long in the tooth and still only supports BT 5.0 and only wifi 5. A 3rd gen display needs to come with BT 5.3 or 5.4 and support Wifi 7 if not 6E at this point and an updated processor.

These have lost significant functionality over the years as Google removed music features following its loss in a lawsuit brought by Sonos. They also removed the cookbook feature, and it is often slow and even unresponsive. Many basic app providers have also dropped support.

A new wave of smart speakers will undoubtedly be introduced in the near future. Consider holding out unless you desperately need a voice-activated timer, reminder, and calendar manager.

Whatever you do don't look at the Amazon ecosystem. They essentially did the same thing Google did...screwed their customers with bloatware, privacy issues and removed functionality that was actually useful.

Just the small one? Because we have a small one upstairs and the larger one in the kitchen and my wife pulls up recipes via Google all the time, and the Spotify app works fine syncing music from my phone.

We use one in our bedroom for an alarm clock. Trash! Voice commands work 50% of the time. Randomly resets settings. Dark mode for sleeping doesn't work. Randomly brightens in the early morning as if it were trying to wake a rooster before the sun actually comes up. Alarms don't work without Internet. Willingness to fix issues falls upon deaf ears.

We haven't had the issues people mention above. Have these in our basement offices so that when somebody rings our nest doorbell we know (can't hear the actual bell down there). My wife streams music all day while working on hers. We use them to broadcast and find out the weather. They're not perfect and maybe a little long in the tooth but we've bought all the ones we have for $50 and we've gotten our moneys worth. In for one more.

I think the Sonos reference was because Sonos sued Google for infringing on their multi speaker groups patent. Where you could add multiple speakers to a group and say "Hey Google, play U2 on the Outdoor Speakers" and it would use multiple smart speakers to play.

Last I heard Google won the appeal and reintroduced that feature.

Ours is a glorified timer. It can also turn on the fireplace, which is nice.

My kids use it to play imagine dragons songs on Spotify. This detracts from the value.
