This article from the NIH library states that petroleum jelly works equally well as this antibiotic stuff. You can get 8oz of it for under $4. My dermatologist also recommended petroleum jelly over antibiotic ointment.

My grandparents would only use something from the farm called Bag Balm. It was sold in a tin can.
