I bought this yesterday , and while both those comments are valid, those are expected for a TV at this price point.
Most smart tv interfaces are laggy after using for a few months and need to be supplemented with a powerful streaming device for the best experience.
About this being the same price as Black Friday 2023, doesn't change the fact that CURRENTLY this is still a really good price for a 55" QLED 4K TV that supports 120hz.

Honestly I have a TCL. The screen looks amazing but Google TV sucks on it. Always freezes up
Agree, I use a fire tv stick over it.

Yeah fire stick or Roku is much better... Maybe Google TV works on a more expensive TV. I'm not sure

It depends on your use case, if you don't use a TV often or plan to use it as a bedroom or some other kind of spare TV, then I think it suits that well. For a main TV I think it's worth it to spend a few hundred more for a better TV with local dimming. I realize a few hundred more would mean at least double what this TV costs, but even just a small number of local dimming zones makes a world of difference, and for something you use everyday, I personally think it's money well spent.

That being said, it's also not a necessity. If you're on a tighter budget, this TV seems like good value.

2022 isn't old at all. Lately I fall accidentally asleep with tv on and don't set timer on my Hisense Roku. I do notice sometimes with YouTube screen does get black and nothing plays so I have to restart, could be YouTube app specifically or signs of tv having issues

I have the older version of this and just use an Apple TV with it. Google TV is terrible, but I'm not buying it for that. Nice deal for an office TV.

I have a few TCL TV's and the only one I ever have problems with has built in AndroidTV. I much prefer the built in ROKU which lets it boot right into a more responsive streaming dongle of your choice.

I have a TCL Roku TV and recently bought the $20 onn. 4k Google TV box, and the GTV runs way better than the Roku. I think these dedicated devices just run better than the TV OSes in general, which is a shame.

Much appreciated!

To be honest, I am not that bothered with the internal gtv, as I plan to hook my roku/apple tv/other external streaming device.

My concern is the TV quality (for that price point), and the longevity

My use case is to connect to an external drive to see family's movies/pictures, and mostly youtube, and a couple of streaming channels

I'd give another rep now, but I think I need to give to others first 😂, but will definitely get to you

Dont worry abt the reps, just giving first hand feedback as i just got it. The TV clarity itself is really good. It replaced a 10 year old Samsung UN55JU series 4K TV (which cost $1000+ at that time) and the TCL is considerably better. I compared the Insignia fire tv ( Currently $209) and this TCL ($229) in best buy and its well worth the additional $20 IMHO.

Just got an Xbox and plan to use the TV only for that. Would this be a good TV for that?

I have what I bet is the same one. Bought Black Friday at Walmart. Problem is that they hardcoded motion smoothing in an update a few months ago and you can't disable. It's driving me nuts.

Purchased the 43inch Q6 (2024) model for $279 almost 2 weeks ago and tested it out with movies, ps5, series X and a few retro consoles. I then went and purchased this Q5 55inch and will return the 43 inch. There's hardly any real difference that I could tell in terms of visual quality. The Q5 supporting 1440p @ 120hz is really what did it for me. This was replacing a spare bedroom/office TV, for $229, I didn't expect OLED. It's an ok tv IMO that you'll want to dial in settings for, out of the box it's a little lackluster for me.
