Rtings review of QM851G is not yet public (insider access only ATM).
How does TCL 65QM851G ($1000) v/s Hisense 65U8N ($1000) v/s Sony 65X90L ($1100) v/s Samsung 55QN90C ($900) compare? The first two are high end mini-LEDs from their respective brands while Sony's X90L is an entry level QLED-only but is a Sony product. QN90C is somewhere in between?

Rtings review will be public some time this week…
I saw it posted on a forum (by someone who paid for rtings insider access) that the QM8 mixed usage score is 8.5 - same as U8N. Each will have different strengths & weaknesses for your use case, but they're neck & neck essentially
I'm looking for a TV for our living room that has little very light control and large windows on the opposite wall. Currently there's an old entry level 48" LED that is nigh unwatchable in the daytime. I've had my eye on the the Hisense U8 but missed all the slick deals on it, any idea on how reflective the QM8 screen is and the brightness?
FWIW, other TVs in the house are a LG C2 OLED and a very old at this point LG C6. Being that it is in the living room, it's the most seldomly watched TV. Primarily as a 'fallback' option if I want to watch sports and the kids are watching something or playing games where all the consoles are located (family room, where the entertainment center/HT setup is).

I am going to assume you are constrained at that budget
First off 55 to 65 inch viewing experience difference is huge...so that would probably rule out the 55" for me
The rest boils down to personal preference. I am going to go out on a limb here and say the Sony will be the most stable and consistent of the three with no big negatives...though it will be beaten in pure performance in some areas by both the TCL and Hisense
Depending on your level of importance of things like motion, picture processing, panel uniformity, upscaling and off angle viewing can make a difference
I have a Hisense U8H and a couple of Samsung QN90as that I watch almost daily
The Hisense can dazzle me with brightness and black levels but the banding/posterization issues can be pretty severe
Additionally, it seems that the Chinese TV's have a viewing angle sweet spot that can only be about 20 degrees off center before the picture starts to degrade rapidly

If only this TV had better upscaling + motion for streaming sports on YouTube TV.. I'd buy it instantly. I'm just concerned about that being a dealbreaker for me

That's my thinking as well and why I'm holding out for a u8n deal to drop
*"edit.. 75u8n is 1400 at Amazon and best buy. Currently OOS but can still order. Went ahead and if something comes up, I can cancel or try to price match

Thanks for your reply. How'z the QN90a? How does QN90a fare against the Hisense? Is the Hisense particularly buggy? If yes, what kind of issues do you see with the Hisense? TIA
Nice price on the 98". Shame that the Hisense hasn't yet release their U9M or UX
Tough to buy without knowing how much of a difference the U9N is, as it's not an easy thing to return

I have had to reboot the Hisense before
It would not respond to any controls/input
Never any operational issues with the Samsung
The Hisense is definitely brighter than the Samsung and they both control blooming pretty well. The Hisense is very colorful and has very good color saturation, though the Samsung is no slouch here
The picture processing on the Hisense is significantly less competent than the Samsung
Specific picture details are much better on the same Samsung....animal fur, Fleshtones, variation in coloration of hair etc
Lower resolution content is definitely better on the Samsung. The Hisense has pretty narrow viewing angle. Anything more than about 20 degrees off center is going to be subject to brightness and color changes
I would say the Samsung has at least double the viewing angle of the Hisense
All in the Samsung QN90a is just a more refined viewing experience, to my eyes, although it does lose to the Hisense in some categories like HDR brightness

I honestly don't know about the TV, but I had a similar situation with my windows, and no matter what I did or how great of a TV I purchased, nothing did the trick until I put light filtering blinds on the windows and blackout curtains over that so I could control it. I highly suggest you invest there first.

Note TCL is lighter than HiSense weight wise.
