Glass is more prone to cracking and breaking based on temperature fluctuations (they even warn of this with the glass lining for carafes). Glass would not be optimal for a surface that faces constant heating and cooling. There's a reason you don't see glass kettles. If you're replacing your parts that often not sure what the issue is but that level/frequency of repair is not common.
Not all glass is the same. That is why we have things like borosilicate glass, which is made for thermal fluctuations. (think Pyrex)

As for the plastic lids break.....yes they were dropped, but only 1-2 feet. I am more complaining about replacement parts costing $20 for something that is obviously made of cheap plastic. $5 would fit the bill for what they are.

Yes, I think the thermodynamics of not pre-heating are a bit suspicious....pre-heating any carafe will increase the initial temperature of the coffee (edit: in the carafe) and increase the amount of time before it cools below a subjective drinking temperature..

Whoa whoa whoa - preheating the carafe with your hottest tap water will absolutely NOT increase the initial temperature of the coffee, unless your brewer is massively malfunctioning and brewing at a temperature lower than your hottest tap water temp. It will slow the cooling process, though.

Yes, I think the thermodynamics of not pre-heating are a bit suspicious. Clearly some carafes cool more quickly at a given room temperature and air convection than others, but pre-heating any carafe will increase the initial temperature of the coffee (edit: in the carafe) and increase the amount of time before it cools below a subjective drinking temperature.

Our room temperature varies between 64F and 80F, and I'm not too fancy to microwave cold coffee, or to use Fahrenheit.
I haven't cut a Technivorm thermal carafe open, but I am just relaying my own experience with it. I can say the thermodynamics of the pot are highly depend on what the insulation is. My Joeveo Temperfect mug has some really cool thermal characteristics that borderline on magic (I've graphed it, it runs your coffee down to 150 and then holds above 135 for hours before falling off).

But again - in the end, the Mochamaster's pot will hold your coffee at a really good temperature for a long time.

The plastic reservoir would be better served being glass. I had one warp via the steam coming from the brewing basket. They want $100 to repair the plastic reservoir alone.

I have also had to replace several of the plastic basket lids and a reservoir lid at $20 each. It's really gouging for what's less than a quarter worth of plastic.

Metal and glass would only mean more shipping and material cost. In terms of repair potential....it really wouldn't change a thing. Apart from the reservoir, the parts are simple swap outs and like I mentioned b4 they charge $100 for reservoir replacement.
Not sure how it's even possible to warp a reservoir, but you can 3D print most of the other plastic Moccamaster parts. https://www.printables.com/search...occamaster

GTFOH, it's physically impossible to break the plastic lid from a drop of 2 feet, unless you dropped it into a garbage disposal Rofl2

It was $222.13 on Prime day last year (I bought one) but this is still a very good price. I make 2 pots of coffee every day and it's held up pretty good for the last year!

Are you going to just ignore the fact that these machines are all brewing into a glass carafe? Even the metal ones have a glass lining. Not sure how you are going to argue that glass is worse than plastic for heating/cooling cycles when plastics will start to dry out eventually and become brittle over time.

Lid weighs less than 2 ounces, you could drop it from 200 feet and it wouldn't break. You would have to hurl it and hit it at an angle for it to break maybe.

Okay, you "dropped it from 1-2 feet" and it broke laugh out loud

Did you carbon freeze it before dropping it?

FWIW, you absolutely DO see glass kettles...

how is this model compare to the 10-Cup Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Coffee Maker? Is the only difference the coffee receptacle? glass vs thermal insulated? thanks
